Today’s session we continued with the micro teaching tasks and it was my groups turn. We choose to study the book ‘The Gruffalo’ By Julia Donaldson
We stared by explaining the story to the class. Within a primary school classroom environment we would of read the book thoroughly first however time restraints prevented us from doing this during the task. We stopped explaining before the mouse met the Gruffalo and asked in groups if they could create a freeze frame of what they think would happen next. We asked simulating questions such as what would the mouse be feeling? What is the Gruffalo like? We then explained the next part of the story when the mouse meet the Gruffalo and he passes back through the forest with the Gruffalo with them. We then got the class to do a thought tunnel where they picked a character and said one word as to how their character would be feeling. For children this would allow them to think like the character and gain a deeper understanding of them. There are many more activities that this book could do as well as activities that would be cross curricular such as creative writing on what happened to the mouse and Gruffalo after their walk through the forest?
