Interdependence

Key Learning:

Interdependence is the the way in which two or more living things depend on each other to grow and remain healthy. The three key ways in which we are interdependent: Economically, socially and environmentally.

Economic – We are part of a global society so goods/services can be produced and traded to be consumed anywhere in the world. The emergence of telecommunication has greatly impacted this. Our economy is affected by the value of the euro, dollar, yen etc through the  international stock markets. The debt of country is shared with the rest of the world for example Greece and European union

Social – We are socially interdependent due to the sharing of media products. For example Hollywood movies and American television shows are viewed globally. This creates an increase in demand for these so more are produced which boosts America’s economy. However this also has an impact of cultural values and attitudes as if they are all watching the same thing they will be likely to attain the values and attitudes which are being promoted.

Environment – The awareness of enviromental interdependence is growing. People now recognise that certain spcies of plants are needed to cure diseases. If we chage one part of a system then it can have huge implications for other parts of the system. For example within food chains, if we over fish one particular type of fish then the fish/mammals that eat them will need to find a different type of fish to eat or they become extinct themselves.

Impact on my views/lifestyle/practice:

This topic increased my awareness of how little things can make a huge difference within out environment, society and economy.

Areas of interest to explore further/develop:

I will further study this topic in depth and look up real life situations in order to put it into perspective.
