During this session we focused on the ten basic dance skills which were mentioned last session. Within groups we each came up with three interpretations of each move.
We then connected dance to mathematics we all stood in a circle and came up with a dance move for each number from 0-9. Then we split into groups and were each group were given a sheet of mathematical equations. All answers tot the equations was a number (0-9) which represented a dance move that we all decided on as a class. This meant that each group had a different order of numbers therefore having a different sequence of a dance (all with the same dance moves). Then we took turns in groups to show our sequences to the class. This lesson helped to combine subjects and allow maths to be more fun than sitting in the classroom with textbooks. It also allows the focus to be taken off dance so people are less nervousand with numbers the dance is easier to remember. For a starter lesson this would be excellent as children may not be confident to come up with their own dance moves yet and can bounce around ideas in groups and by presenting in groups it is less intimidating than being solo.
