Week 9

15/11/16

In this session we looked at the art piece entitled ‘Windows in the West’ by Avril Paton which is displayed in Kelvin Grove Art Galleries in Glasgow. We discussed the length in time one would take to look at a painting, nowadays people only take a mere few seconds to analyse a painting therefore missing many details. We watched a video where Avril Paton explains more about the paining.

Here is a link to the video we watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVDRL6wsQYU

Then we used one of the windows from the painting as inspiration to create print makings. First we ingrained a window in a piece of polystyrene with a pen.

The we rolled red or green paint onto a wooden board then applied it to the polystyrene. Then we pressed the polystyrene onto a piece of paper.

Next we added more detail to the polystyrene by engraving it with pen. For example details which could be added included things int the windows ( cats, Christmas trees and stockings) and bricks on the building.

And then rolled the different colour of paint and printed it on top of the paper which we used last time.

This was an incredibly fun activity yet simple activity to do which was different from any art work i have ever created.
