Week 8

8/11/16

Today’s session was the beginning of the micro teaching tasks were each group were to create a drama lesson of two/three activities based on a book and some of the techniques that we have learned thus far.

The first group choose the book Room on the Broom and began by reading and explaining the story (due to time restrictions they did not read the whole book however with a class the whole book would be read). First we done a freeze frame of a page they described from the book (seen below) then we done a thought tunnel of what the character would be feeling.  For children this story would be engaging as it had many themes and thought provoking characters within it. The activities which they choose to teach would help children to understand the character better as well as using their imagination.

The second group choose a book about two tin sisters who swapped identities. They first activity involved improvisation of acting as your partner. This activity would be hard to do with younger years or those who did not know each other well however was a creative and enjoyable activity that children would engage with.

The third group studied one of the Harry Potter books. In groups we were to act out a lesson that would fit into a Harry Potter book, our group acted out a potions class where two of us accidentally drank the potion causing us to shrink. Then each group made a freeze frame of when Harry was told by Hagrid that he was a wizard. Then the ‘teachers’ used teacher in role where they were all teachers within the school of magic and we were all new students on their first day and we asked them questions. It was interesting to see the creativity within each group and their different interpretations of the boo and the instructions given.
