In response to the Scottish Government initiative to improve understanding of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Hillhead Primary Parent Council has been actively engaging with this issue in order to support parents, staff and children at this school.

The issue of FGM remains hidden and it is widely thought that FGM remains hidden and ongoing because until now it has not been recognised as a form of abuse. That has now changed.

On 28 April 2014 the Cabinet Secretary for Education wrote to Head Teachers to highlight the issues related to FGM in the context of schools and the local communities.
