Values Awards 25/26

As part of its ongoing support for our learning community, the Parent Council have proposed a series of awards linked to our school values. These will be awarded to young people as nominated by peers, staff, parents and the wider community.

Fairness Award (Sponsored by Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park)

This value is about treating everyone equally, making just decisions, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Fairness is about respect, inclusivity, and doing things in a way that build a positive environment where everyone feels valued. Catherine Street Inclusive Park support this award and are delighted to celebrating young people at Dumfries Academy who embody fairness in their actions.

This may be awarded to someone who:

  • Consistently treats others fairly, showing kindness, honesty, and respect in their interactions plus
  • Has demonstrated and act promoting fairness that goes above and beyond normal expectations
  • Has stood up for fairness, challenging unfairness and working to create a more inclusive and supportive environment

Respect Award (Sponsored by Dumfries Saints Rugby Club)

Respect is a value that is important at Dumfries Saints. Respect extends far beyond the pitch with players, spectators, coaches, referees and the community all asked to be respectful of each other and the contributions they make. This makes for an inclusive encouraging place to be and we are very happy to support this award, rewarding the young people at Dumfries Academy for showing the important value of respect.

This may be awarded to someone who:

  • Is consistently respectful to others – peers, staff, visitors etc.
  • Has lead by example encouraging respectful behaviour in others in a way that goes beyond the normal expectations.
  • Has challenged disrespectful behaviour in a positive and supportive way

Responsibility Award (Sponsored by a local employer)

This value is about taking ownership of our actions, being dependable, and making choices that positively impact ourselves and those around us. Responsibility helps build trust, respect, and a strong sense of community and is a very important value in the workplace.

  • This may be awarded to someone who:
  • Consistently acts responsibly – meeting commitments, making thoughtful decisions, and considering the impact of their actions
  • Leads by example, showing reliability and encouraging responsible behaviour in others
  • Has taken responsibility in a challenging situation, taking initiative to help, support, or make a difference

Ambition Award (Sponsored by Mrs Dillon)

This value is about striving for excellence, setting goals, and working hard to achieve them – whether in sports, school, or personal growth. Ambition inspires dedication, resilience, and a positive mindset. We proudly support this award, celebrating the young people at Dumfries Academy who embody the spirit of ambition.

This may be awarded to someone who:

  • Consistently demonstrates ambition through effort, perseverance, and commitment in their pursuits
  • Has shown ambition in a particular area, inspiring others to aim high and stay motivated
  • Encourages ambition in others, helping them to push past challenges and believe in their potential

Compassion Award (Sponsored by Dumfries Academy Parent Council)

Showing compassion for one another means understanding how we act and what we do can support each other’s wellbeing and treating others in the way we would want to be treated ourselves. The parent council is delighted to sponsor this award the work we do as volunteers is giving our time to help to make the experience at Dumfries Academy as good as it can be for all young people.

This may be awarded to someone who:

  • Is consistently kind and considerate to others plus
  • Has demonstrated an act of kindness above and beyond normal expectations
  • Has lead by example and encouraged others to be kind and helping others

We look forward to recognising pupil contributions to our community through these awards in our 2026 Awards Ceremonies.
