Academy9 have developed several resources that support learners and schools to engage with infrastructure projects and the careers associated with them.

This design challenge is open to P6, P7, S1, S2 and S3 learners.
We have an SQA qualification in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Projects (SCQF level 4) which you can undertake from S3-S6.
Next Steps is an online resource which prepares young adults (S4, S5 and S6) for life beyond school, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment.
Academy9 run a number of in-person events in schools from P1 to S6 across our corridor schools from Perth to Inverness.

Introduction to Academy9 and A9 Dualling – activities focus on bird life and help explain the consideration of nature and natural habitats involved when building a road.

Pupils from associate primary schools visit their future secondary school for an interactive half day of Academy9 related activities delivered together by engineering professionals and S3 pupils.
Three digital lessons are delivered allowing P5-P7 pupils to examine different types of risk likely to be encountered on a day-to-day basis and how they can be mitigated against. There is also a focus on the dangers associated with construction sites.
Three interactive workshops in the classroom, led by industry experts, giving P6s a real-life insight into the jobs of an ecologist, geologist and engineer /construction worker currently working on the A9 Dualling programme.
In partnership with construction contractors a three-part experience consisting of pre-site, construction site, and post-site visits has been developed to provide young people with a real-life experience of careers on a construction site and learn about ‘The Journey of Concrete’
This activity, introduced in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges P6&7 and S1-3 pupils working in teams in their own schools. Their aim is to design and build a ‘Road of the Future’ incorporating as many of the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as possible.
Aimed at S1/2/3 pupils, a four-part series of lessons which includes judging experience on the key considerations required when developing their local town. This includes enhancing their digital skills using industry-standard Geographic Information Systems, GIS technology.
A 2.5 day immersive experience which is targeted at S2/S3 pupils, brings together planning and engineering and construction disciplines to work with pupils (parents and wider community) to fully understand the scale and complexity of such an infrastructure project and develop their skills working in a team environment and encouraging innovation.
A Transport Scotland (TS) customised Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) award ‘Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Projects: An Overview’. Accredited at Level 4 on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), aimed at S3 – S6 pupils and college students. It examines the careers and professions needed to complete large engineering and infrastructure projects and exemplifies the A9 Dualling programme as a case study.
Prepares young adults S4-S6 for life beyond school, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment, including interview skills and an insight into the professionals’ career pathways currently working on A9 Dualling. Its conference style delivery provides a unique experience into the world of work.
Aimed at S4-6 pupils, this is another activity introduced in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic recognising the difficult time being experienced by young people facing future career choices. Pupils volunteer to take part in four online sessions with an industry professional working on the A9 Dualling programme in a career of interest to the pupil. The professional acts as a mentor during all the sessions.
