Writing

Resources

The National Literacy Trust has some free downloadable resources that can support writing across all levels, including secondary.

Literacy for Pleasure is a website that offers support in how to teach writing skills, including a writing conference apprioach, whereby feedback is given as part of the writing process rather than as long written feedback after a piece has been completed. Their support notes for writing conferences can be found here: pupil conferencing help cards. They also have a huge range of ideas for teaching writing in different genres, which can be accessed in this document: writing study lessons that last forever

The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education publish a range of resources including https://clpe.org.uk/library-and-resources/what-we-know-works-booklets/writing-primary-schools-what-we-know-works

Creative writing

To give your students almost total freedom in writing a poem without realising it, use the Teachit cube template and ask them to write any (clean!) word on each side. Get them to work with a partner to make and then roll their dice, to turn the single words into pairs of words and then to add words as they wish to gradually become poems: Cube template and ideas
