The annual National Storytelling Week is organised by the Society for Storytelling and aims to promote what it describes as ‘the oldest art form in the world’.
The Society provides advice on organising and publicising events including storytelling in schools, libraries, museums and art galleries.
The website has resources for developing storytelling skills and advice for teachers, as well as information about more than 150 storytellers throughout the UK.
Up to 23, year-long, paid Modern Apprenticeships with arts organisations aimed at young people aged 16 to 20 will be created in a partnership between Creative Scotland, Young Scot, Creative & Cultural Skills Scotland and Creative Skillset.
Young people taking part in the Modern Apprenticeships will study for vocational qualifications while gaining professional experience working for an arts organisation. Creative Scotland will offer employers up to £8,000 towards the salary of each apprentice, enabling organisations to provide positions.

Resonate is a strategic initiative, funded by Creative Scotland, that has been developed by the University of Aberdeen in partnership with the Arts Education Team at Aberdeen City Council, and aims to place creativity at the heart of the continuous professional development of teachers, student teachers and University teacher educators.
The initiative is seeking applications from artists interesting in applying for the residency. Deadline for submissions Wednesday 30th January, 5pm.

The third of this series of Creative Conversations (and the first of 2013) will be on Thursday 31st January at 4pm for 4.30 till 5.30pm with wine and canapes afterwards (venue to follow with confirmation of attendance). The Creative Catalyst this session is Tim Brighouse.
Professor Tim Brighouse will share and discuss how encouraging creativity and improving schools has to be a joint effort involving partnership, commitment and shared purpose. That is how Tim Brighouse has worked throughout his career. He has one of the most remarkable track records in education throughout which runs a commitment to creativity in every sense. This is a rare opportunity to engage with Tim Brighouse in a conversation about creativity and how to achieve the best outcomes for young people without compromising the quality of education and experience. Tim will bring wisdom, experience, curiosity and interest – come and join in!
Mike Rosendale (Head of Service Schools and Communities) will provide the welcome and as with all previous Creative Conversations, David Cameron will facilitate the discussion. You are invited to continue the conversations afterwards with Tim, Mike, David and colleagues over wine and canapes!

Prezi is a large blank sheet of digital paper which can be edited easily to share beautiful interactive presentations. This Glow Meet will share how to create an education account with Prezi. Prezi basics and then some ideas for using prezi for storytelling.

As part of East Dunbartonshire’s Creative Learning Network programme, Visible Fictions Theatre Company worked with a group of S3 female pupils over a period of 3 months at the end of 2012 to create a performance for early years The Christmas Bee
“It’s the night before Christmas and everyone is full of yuletide joy and merriness – well almost everyone. When three misbehaving youngsters go a step too far it’s time for some Christmas magic to intervene and show them the error of their ways. These young divas will never look at a pot of honey the same way again!!!
This immersive theatrical adventure combines classic storytelling with interactive play. It has all the components of a feel good night out at the theatre and more.”
The Performance was delivered to an audience of 4 local nursery schools over two days – 19th and 20th of December 2012 at Kilmardinny Arts Centre Bearsden and was featured in a press article by the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald.
The Creative Learning Network in East Dunbartonshire aims to provide sustainable support mechanisms and enhancement of Network infrastructure for the engagement of pupils and staff in training, workshops and events.
The Network brings together an evolving collective of people who will develop a common language for Creative Learning by sharing experiences, ideas, skills and knowledge with one another through creative and cultural participation.
Dewar Arts Award – Meet the Artist Events at the Botanics – Saturday 19 January and Saturday 23 February
The Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh is holding two ‘Meet the Artist’ events in connection with its ‘Roots to Shoots’ exhibition. The events feature successful Scottish artists who have forged careers in the arts and provide an opportunity for young people interested in a career in the arts to find out more.
Organised in connection to the ‘Roots to Shoots’ exhibition currently on display in the John Hope Gateway at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, these events offer the opportunity to meet artists who have received a Dewar Arts Award (www.dewarawards.org).
In the first session, on Saturday 19 January, the jeweller Jonathan Boyd will be interviewed by the novelist Jenni Fagan. In the second, on Saturday 23 February, the painter Caroline Walker will be interviewed by curator Eve Smith.
