Ideas Exchange 2013

Imaginate is now inviting submissions for the next Ideas Exchange, in association with Tramway in February 2013.

The Ideas Exchange offers an excellent opportunity to try out ideas and receive peer feedback – if you have an idea for a performance piece for children and young people aged 0-18, we want to hear from you! Inspirational Education – training and best practice in dance education

Dundee Dance Partnership welcomes Charles Chip McNeal, Director of Education, San Francisco Ballet to open this day of workshops and networking opportunities.

Through a programme of workshops, participants, whether newly qualified or highly experienced, will:

  • gain renewed insight into the importance of their roles as dance educators
  • meet fellow dance educators at many levels of experience
  • refresh and gain new skills in activity delivery and planning

The Shoe Fits – animation competition

Children and young people are being encouraged to get creative in a new competition launched by Edinburgh Museums & Galleries and Red Kite Animation.  Inspired by artist Qian Shi’s award-winning short film about a toy shoe, the ‘Hidden Stories’ animation competition is designed to celebrate Edinburgh’s rich heritage and the art of animation.

Budding animators have until 22 March to submit short films based upon either a real or imagined back story of an object of their choice, housed in one of Edinburgh’s Museums & Galleries.

Climate Week challenge – March 2013

Schools are invited to register for the Climate Week Challenge – a fun, free and easy-to-organise event to enable schools to take part in Climate Week 2013. Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign. During the week of 4-10 March 2013, thousands of events and activities planned by organisations from every part of society will showcase real, practical ways to combat climate change.

The Climate Week Challenge can be held on any day during Climate Week. There are two versions of the Climate Week Challenge to choose from – one-hour and one-day – and the one-day version is judged nationally by a panel of judges.

The challenge is can be done by teams of four to six people of any age. It helps develop creativity, innovation and enterprise, team-working skills and experience of tackling real-life environmental issues to a deadline.

Young Writers Conference – Sat 1 Dec, Glasgow

Are you aged between 14 and 17 years old? Do you love writing? Do you want to develop your writing skills? Come along to our Young Writers Conference!

Come along to our Young Writers Conference, where you’ll meet loads of like-minded people, hear from award winning novelist Annabel Pitcher and choose from workshops on writing fiction, comics, poetry, plays or writing a truly convincing fight scene!

We’re very excited to confirm that this year’s conference will include workshops led by Annabel Pitcher, Cathy Forde and Steve Cole. We’ve got something for everyone, including fiction, playwrighting, poetry and comics.

Inspired? Get Writing! Creative Writing Competition 2013

School pupils and their teachers are invited to choose an inspirational painting, photograph, print or sculpture from the National Galleries of Scotland’s Collection and to create a piece of poetry or prose not exceeding 1,000 words in length. Works may be viewed in person, or online at www.nationalgalleries.org/onlinecollections

There are three categories for school pupils:

Category A School Pupils Under 12

Category B School Pupils 12-14 Years of Age

Category C School Pupils 15-18 Years of Age

There will be ten awards in each category: Winner, two Runners-up and seven Special Merit. All will be included in a public reading at the Scottish National Gallery in April 2013.

Junior Saltire Prize 2013 – designing for renewable energy

To help to raise awareness amongst young people of the exciting developments and opportunities of marine renewables in Scotland for the third successive year the Junior Saltire Award for primary and secondary school pupils is being organised.  The competition is managed by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in partnership with the Scottish Government and SCDI’s Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland.

This award is open to all primary P5-P7 and secondary S1-S3 and S4-S6 pupils in Scotland. Working in teams of up to four, pupils will design and build a model marine energy device to operate under test conditions. Schools can submit multiple entries provided each is registered separately. Deadline for registration: 21 December 2012.

National Youth Jazz Orchestras of Scotland Auditions

The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland are still accepting applications for auditions taking place early in 2013 for the National Youth Jazz Orchestras of Scotland.

3 Jan – Perth (North Inch Campus)

4 Jan – Aberdeen (Northfield Academy)

5 Jan – Glasgow (Unitarian Church Hall, Berkely Street)

6 Jan – Edinburgh (Broughton High School)

If distance precludes applicants from attending an audition, applications by dvd (or cd/soundcloud/wetransfer) will be considered.

Scottish Government challenge prize fund for young innovators – 18-24 years

The Scottish Government announces the launch of the Young Innovators Challenge which will be open to young people aged 18-24 who are in their final year of college or university, taking part in a national training programme or studying for a Modern Apprenticeship. Industry leaders will set young competitors challenges across a number of specialist fields, judge competition entries and offer mentoring and support to successful entrants.
