At St Francis we use a wide range of resources to teach reading.  In the infant department our core resource is Jolly Readers, these book will be sent home as part of your child’s’ homework programme.  In the middle and upper school Bug Club  is our core resource.

Phonics International is used to teach spelling throughout the school.  We promote active spelling strategies and use these for homework.

Throughout their time at St Francis your child will develop a range of writing skills, these skills are taught weekly with pupils writing imaginative stories, poetry, reports, recounts, letter and more.  These writing skills are then developed in a variety of real life situations e.g. writing a letter to invite a visitor into school.
