The Eco-Committee is represented by one child from every class in the school. The Eco Committee meet weekly to discuss changes that can be made to make the school, local community and world more environmentally friendly.
This year (2022-2023) the Eco-Committee will be working towards three aims:
- to grow, harvest and cook more food
- to increase awareness of Fairtrade and ethical purchases
- to improve recycling and reduce waste
So far this year the Eco-Committee have presented to classes and shared their aims for the year.
The Eco-Committee have been regularly checking class recycling bins and sharing their knowledge of what can/can’t be recycled.
The Eco-Committee have pruned and weeded the school garden and harvested some of the vegetables and fruits.
Fairtrade Fortnight
Miss Dorward and the pupil Eco Committee successfully led and organised a variety of Fairtrade activities and learning including a Fairtrade banana hunt around the school and lots of Fairtrade cooking during Fairtrade fortnight.
Primary 6 presented at the school assemblies and made some delicious Fairtrade chocolate crispy cakes to raise funds for Fairtrade.
As a school, we have successfully achieved the ‘Fair Achiever’ Award which is the highest award we can receive.
