Uniform and Lost Property

School Uniform

We are delighted to have the support of our parents for pupils to wear the Broomhill Primary School uniform. All pupils wear school uniform because of the numerous positive contributions it makes to developing a sense of ‘team and community’ in the school. Although the initial outlay can be expensive, longer-term school uniform is generally the cheaper option for families.

As part of our inclusion policy pupils can wear whatever items of uniform they feel comfortable in. Our gender neutral uniform options are as follows:

  • Sky blue polo shirt or
  • Sky blue shirt and school tie
  • Navy/grey sweatshirt or cardigan
  • Navy/grey trousers or shorts
  • Navy/grey skirt or pinafore
  • Sky blue summer dress
  • Indoor shoes

Uniform with the school badge embroidery can be ordered online at  https://schoolwearmadeeasy.com/collections/broomhill-primary

Optional badged items are also available online, including blazer, fleece and school bag.

Parent volunteers run a ‘uniform bank’ where parents can access laundered, good quality second-hand uniform.

Please put your child’s name on all items of clothing, footwear and PE kit. Education Service does not carry insurance to cover the damage or loss of items.

Please note that from February 2020 uniform purchased from Schoolwear Made Easy will have our new school badge embroidered on it.  A decision to update our school badge was the subject of widespread school consultation in 2019.

PE Kit

For Physical Education children should wear shorts, t-shirt/polo shirt and indoor shoes such as sand shoes or trainers. Gym bags can be left in school between lessons and taken home regularly when garments are required to be washed. Our changing rooms are used to allow children to change safely.

The wearing of jewellery is not permitted during P.E. and swimming. Pupils with longer hair must also have it secured for PE and wear a cap for swimming.

Children who are not participating in PE must have a note or a medical certificate.  Children who are unable to participate in practical PE should still bring their kit to allow them to assist in the lesson by refereeing, keeping scores or assisting with the distribution of equipment.  This ensures that they are still able to take part in some way in the work of the class and do not miss out on the knowledge and understanding of the PE programme.

Under no circumstances will children be deprived of any educational benefit as a result of not wearing clothing conforming to the school’s dress code policy.

 Unacceptable forms of dress

 There are forms of dress which are unacceptable in school, such as items of clothing which:

  • potentially encourage faction (such as football colours);
  • could cause offence (such as anti-religious symbolism or political slogans);
  • could cause health & safety difficulties, such as loose fitting clothing, jewellery;
  • could cause damage to flooring;
  • carry advertising, particularly for alcohol or tobacco; and
  • could be used to inflict damage on other pupils.

Clothing & Footwear Grants

Parents/carers receiving Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based), Working Tax Credit (check link below for thresholds), Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Universal Credit (check link below for thresholds) will normally be entitled to monetary grants for footwear and clothing for their children. Information and application forms may be obtained from schools and at https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=17885

Lost Property

We ask that everything your child brings into school is clearly marked with their name, especially all clothing including P.E. kit.  Clearly marked items can then be returned promptly to your child if it is mislaid. This also prevents confusion over ownership e.g. with pocket toys. We recommend the use of PE bags to help with organisation in the changing rooms.

Any items of clothes which are mislaid can be collected from the Lost Property storage unit on the Ground Floor. Staff will attempt to find missing clothing but are limited in what they can do if property has not been named.

Unclaimed lost property will be kept for 1 month but there is very limited space for storage and unnamed/unclaimed items will be disposed of at the end of term.
