We have had an amazing Literacy Week at Balornock Primary. The boys and girls have taken part in a variety of Literacy based activities including library visits, author readings, paired reading and storytelling. The children have also carried out a number of literacy based writing activities in class including authors plans, story retells and book reviews. Our Learning Reflection This week Primary 3/2 have had a super week doing lots of literacy related activities. Holly – We got to dress us as a character from our favourite book. Our teachers dressed up too. I dressed up as Wonder Woman. Miss Davidson dressed up as the Witch from Room on the Broom. Ella-Rose – We swapped teachers and they read us their favourite story. The boys and girls in Primary 1a love to read books and listen to stories. On Tuesday, we all visited our school library to borrow a book to enjoy back in class. There was a fantastic choice of books and we hope to visit every week to change our books. A huge thank you to our librarians Salome and Ryan who did a great job of helping us!
Primary 1a have been working very hard in the Challenge Room this week. They have been having great fun counting words in sentences. Well done!

Primary 1b had great fun counting the syllables or beats in words as part of their work with Phonological Awareness. We counted the number of syllables in words, using claves and then sorted them into the correct number columns. We even managed to squeeze in a syllable jumping game too!
Primary have been reading Ross Collins’ book There’s A Bear On My Chair. They loved it so much they decided to write Ross a letter to tell him how fantastic his book is. All the boys and girls in Primary 2 wrote a letter to Ross and sent it to him along with a book review and a picture of their favourite part of the story. Today Primary 2
Last Tuesday, we took part in a ‘Hairy MacLary’ workshop led by a visiting drama specialist named Louisa. We had lots of fun being in the role of the characters from the stories and were also very successful in finding the items that had gone missing from Donaldson’s Dairy by following the clues. Well done Primary 1a!
This week the Primary 1s have been very busy reading lots of new stories. At the beginning of the week some children read Peace At Last written by Jill Murphy. Their favourite part was when Mother Bear’s snoring kept Father Bear awake! Both Primary 1 classes also took home their Bookbug bags with lots of exciting goodies inside!
