Wow, what an exciting week we’ve had in P6.  Even though it was only 4 days we seemed to cram in a month’s worth of activities!

Of course, the focus was on Outdoor Learning, something the whole class have absolutely loved.  It is my hope that what the children have learned in school, they take home and share with everyone.  With the October holiday beginning on Friday, it would be great to hear from the children that they’ve been outside, going on walks, building dens and having loads of fun come rain or shine.

For PE we took part in more Orienteering activities.  Although it was about being active outdoors, we had to use our problem solving, map reading, team work and numeracy skills.

In art we decided to use the MUGA as a blank canvas.  Having a project so large required everyone to pitch in use their chalks to create a giant masterpiece.  The time lapse below shows the project unfolding…

In our topic the people of Catberg received some devastating news, a local resident returned home from a holiday in Arcadia Island (Catberg’s twinned island) to tell everyone that the island had been hit by a hurricane!  We found out about hurricanes and the effect they can have on low-lying islands then we acted out how it might have been for the Arcadian people.  We designed some persuasive posters in the hope that we can raise money to help the people of Arcadia recover.

We found out that the people of Arcadia had their homes destroyed and are now living in homemade shelters.  We recreated this to see how difficult it would be to erect a shelter that could withstand a storm.  Obviously we had loads of fun doing it, especially on Friday afternoon when we built a fire, had s’mores and told stories under the shelter.

Omar tries his hand at using a flint and steel to start a fire.  It wasn’t an easy task!
