Lots of Learning!

Another fantastic week in Primary 2!

So much fun and learning! This week in maths we were looking at money and what coins we can use to make values up to £1.

Our mental maths time included lots of different ways to make numbers to 10 using the bar model.

Lulu – We can get 4 calculations from the model.

Abdulhadi – We were remembering what odd and even numbers are.

Subhan – We were adding £2 and £2 to make £4.

Inayah – We were learning about multiplication.

Issa –  Multiplication is like groups of.

During Health and Wellbeing, we practiced our listening skills. This is a whole class target we are trying to work on.

29/1/20

Ajwa – We were asking our partners what they were doing at the weekend so we could practice our listening skills.

Abdulhadi – We then asked them questions to show we were listening to them.

Ajwa- We learned that if you’re not listening, you cannot ask questions.

We then worked in pairs to show the importance of asking questions. One person had to draw something on their whiteboard and the other had to ask questions to guess what was on it.

Abdullah – We were sitting behind our partner and asking question about what was on our boards.

Rida – We were drawing shapes for our partner to guess.

During our writing time, we were still focusing on Character. Some of us were re-writing a piece we had already written in order to improve it, and the other group working on the  iPads to animate our library books.

Deen – We were talking about Characters, and describing them using adjectives.

Subhan – We were describing characters using all the words that are needed.

During grammar we looked at singular and plurals.  We had a shot at writing words in singular and plural.

Lulu – We write a ‘s’ at the end if there is more than one.

Subhan – Plural is more than 1.

Aarv – Singular is just 1.

During our outdoor PE slot we practiced our ball skills.

Innayah – We were throwing the balls to each other.

Abdulhadi – We were rolling and bouncing the ball.

Amer – We were passing and rolling the ball.

This afternoon we had such fun watching the Primary 4’s performance with Barroland Ballet.

Ajwa – They were telling us a story about a monster and that all stories don’t have a happy ending.

Innayah – They were doing cartwheels.

Alizah – They were doing handstands.

Amer – They were telling a story and mums were there.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and can’t wait to see everyone again on Monday!

This week in maths we looked at symmetry in patterns and shapes. We had loads of fun playing these Topmarks games:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-matching

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-sorting

Abdulhadi – They were making symmetrical patterns.

Issa – When you fold the pattern it should match on either side.

Lulu – We used patterns and colours in symmetry.

In maths we also continued to look at Place Value.

Here is Ajwa describing place value to the class. Miss Graham thought her explanation was fantastic.

RV – She was hiding the zero to show it’s a ‘ten’.

Ajwa – I was being the teacher.

Arham – We were doing Place Value.

Ajwa – We were finding the numbers on 100 boards.

Zayn showed just how amazing he is by writing a sentence independently. What a superstar!

Zayn – I used my alphabet to spell my words and write a sentence.

On Wednesday, the BBC came to visit and we got to play some games from the show, Swashbuckle.

Arham – We were trying to get the beanbags into the correct box.

Deen – It was for the show, Swashbuckle.

Arham – We played games.

Talha – We played games that we had to listen.

All this week we have been getting outside and taking part in the daily mile with Primary 2/3. We walk or run round the MUGA as many times as possible before play time.

RV – We are exercising everyday.

As today is Robert Burns day, we celebrated Robert Burns in school by hosting a Burns Assembly. We truly were the stars of the show, introducing each class and singing a Scottish song.

We enjoyed learning our lines and practicing our song each day.

If you would like to see our performance of ‘If it Wisney Fur Yer Wellies’, it should be available via this link:

Abdullah Q – We did our part in the show and sang a song.

Rida – We were singing.

RV – We had lines to learn.

Innayah – We used the mic when speaking.

Abdulhadi – We introduced each class.

RV – Mum and Dads came to see us, it was very exciting.

Arham – All of the teachers were watching us.

Hope you are having a fantastic weekend.

A week full of learning!

Second week back and our brains are still growing, and we are getting much better at giving others time to let their brain grow as well!

We looked at grids and how we plot points. We started to write down our co-ordinates and how these should look.

Abdulhadi – The grids can help you with where you want to go.

Abdulhadi – A grid has two axis’ and one has numbers and one has letters.

RV –  There is an X axis and a Y axis.

Deen – The Y axis goes straight up and the X axis goes to the side.

Deen – We remembered this by saying ‘Y reach for the sky’.

16-01-2020

Rida – Inayah found the treasure.

Alizah – We played a treasure chest game.

We loved having Mrs Sheridan in on Monday morning showing us different ways to make numbers and looking at the value of these numbers.

Some of us even looked at the hundreds column.

Abdulhadi – We looked at hard numbers with hundreds, tens and ones.

Deen – We looked at numbers and used 100 boards.

Arham – We used Dienes Material to help us with our place value.

In literacy we have been looking at characters and how important it is to describe them.

Abdullah Q – We were drawing monsters to see if everyone got the same. ( Miss Graham described a monster and we wanted to see if they all looked the same, showing the importance of describing a character with lots of detail and adjectives.)

We continued our topic by looking at the journey Harriet Tubman made, plotting these points on a map of America. We also looked at her life story and all the amazing things she did for others.

Aarv – We learned more about Harriet Tubman.

Abdulhadi – We learned that because we look different does not mean we are.

Abdullah – Some of our skin looks different but we should be treated the same.

Lulu – We were writing about Harriet Tubman’s life.

Abdulhadi – We were writing about characters.

We also started reading the book: Handa’s Surprise.

Jibraeel – We read Handa’s Surprise. Her friend was happy at the end.

Inayah – We were writing about Handa.

Jibraeel – We were writing a sentence at the target table about the story. We then take our target off when we have finished.

Inayah – We were looking at the story in parts. (First, then and last)

As part of our topic we looked at the UN Rights of a Child and if the children in the book we are reading about Harriet would have had these rights. We had a very long discussion about what is right and wrong.

Abdulhadi – We looked at peoples rights and what we need and what is not important to survive.

Because of our amazing hard work and effort all week, Miss Graham gave us time today to relax and practice taking big, long deep breaths.

Attached is our Term 3 Plan and all the things we will be doing over the next term.
