Primary 6 2018-2019

Sometimes we like to just dress up and have a laugh. Harry Potter who?? 

We went on a trip to Queens Park to go geocaching. It was so much fun!! 

We used our mobiles to download the geocache app and use this to find geocache prizes. 

We had to follow directions and hunt for the geocache locations. 

Yayyy we found a geocache and signed the sheet to say we were successful!! 

Geocaching is so much fun and anybody can do it. The app is easy to use too. 

We couldn’t walk past the outdoor gym without pumping some iron. 

We ended our trip with fun times playing  in the park. 

We hunted our school grounds for different creatures. 

We used magnifying apparatus and other tools to help us find all sorts of spiders, caterpillars and bees. Safa and Hiba even found a very rare bee!! 

Eishah notes down all of the creatures we found using tally marks and we will transfer this data into a table. 

Today we took our maths outside and used our coordinates knowledge to create a grid to play battleships. 

We drew our grid on the ground with chalk and then competed against our partner to play human battleships. 

It was lots of fun and we were able to show off our knowledge of coordinates. 

Today was the start of Outdoor Learning Week and we began by learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. 

We then worked in groups to create 2D and 3D shapes using materials we found outside like tyres, leaves, sticks, conkers and logs. 

It was so much fun and some of us made shapes using our bodies! 

Saad even managed to grow a tail! 

We were lucky enough to be invited over to The Platform at Easterhouse to watch the play, Tiger Tales.

It was a silent play and the story was told through dance.

We all had the chance to go in and explore the space when the play was finished. It was so much fun! Everyone was throwing balls about everywhere and dancing. 

Vince lifted Zain up!! He’s super strong.

When we got back to school, the massive tree in our playground had been blown over in the storm. That was some fierce wind!! 

We went on a trip to The Hidden Gardens to learn more about how food is grown. This trip helped us understand our topic of organic food more. 

Rhona took us on a tour of The Hidden Gardens and told us all about different plants and how they grow. 

We saw pumpkins, peppers and grapes that were grown in The Hidden Gardens. We were able to try the grapes too!!

Rhona taught us about the places that different fruits and vegetables are grown.

Then, we got to plant our own pea plant using soil and seeds. We know that we need sunlight and water to help seeds grow. 

We tasted the pea plant that Rhona has already grown. Are you enjoying that Sarmud? 

Our fantastic visit finished with us being able to try some organic apples. They were delicious and juicy! 

We have been learning about mental health as part of our health and well-being.

Mental health is the health of your mind and it is important to have good mental health and be a happy, positive person.

We’ve been learning about the benefits doing physical exercise has on your mental health.

To finish the topic and assess our learning, Miss McCue asked us to work in pairs to create a 1 minute film on mental health and how physical health can benefit our mental health.

It was so much fun and we can’t wait to improve our digital skills in Primary 6.

Today we walked to Pollokshields Library and talked with the librarians about genres of books and what kind of books we like. 

We were allowed to choose our own books and used the library’s sorting system to find the book we wanted.  

Taking out books from the librarian was so much fun! 

As a treat, we stopped in at the park on the way back to school for a play. 

We took our maths learning outdoors today and investigated our school grounds to see what shapes we could find. 

We noticed that the roof of the outdoor classroom is made out of 8 triangles. It’s an octagon! We also found lots of tyres which are a circle shape. 

Saad spotted a berry and told us it was a sphere shape. That’s a really hard word to say … sphere 😂😂 

Jazil pointed out that the bike stands are like semi-circles. 

The shed in the upper playground is made up of lots of different shapes. 

Hamza found the fire pit and told us all it’s a circle shape! 

We had some fun playing the glockenspiel in the sensory garden and each note is a cylinder. 

We explored the infant playground and found more shapes. We even had time to do some climbing on our way to the pitch. 

When we got onto the pitch, we worked in groups to make shapes. We made (tried to) a circle, a rectangle and a diamond. The group with the best shape won 10 points 🎉🎉
