Primary 6 2018-2019

All our hard work paid off when staff from Mary’s Meals came and collected all the backpacks we had collected.

By now, our backpacks will be with children in Africa. 👍🏼👍🏼

Today we had lots of fun at our sports day!! In the morning, we got to try lots of different sports and activities at the ‘come and try’ sessions.  Some of these included netball, cricket, Highland games, HIIT workout, yoga, karate and water activities.

 

After lunch, the traditional races started and our parents arrived.  We took part in the egg and spoon race and the sack race which were really fun.  Unfortunately, it started pouring with rain and we had to go back inside.  We were all soaked!!  The rest of the races will be rescheduled to another day.

This term we have been learning about Magnus MacFarlane Barrow.  He is the founder of Mary’s Meals which is a charity that provides children with a daily meal in their place of education.  Mary’s Meals work in countries all over the world to try and beat poverty and ensure that children attend school so that they have the chance of a better future.  

Another project the charity do is the backpack appeal.  This is where they collect backpacks filled with useful items and send them to children in developing countries who have never had a backpack.

We decided we wanted to help and so organised the backpack appeal in our school.  We advertised the project and wrote to parents asking them if they could donate any backpacks or useful items to us.

When we had gathered everything in, we had to sort it all.  We separated all the items into groups and were very pleased by the amount of donations we received.  At first, it was hard to work with other people to organise but we got there 🤪😂

After everything was sorted, we then began to put the items into the backpacks, making sure that there was an equal amount in each backpack.

Thank you to everyone who donated.  These backpacks will change the life of the child who receives it.

We were lucky enough to be invited to The Tramway to take part in a Question and Answer session with people who work in The Citizens Theatre.  The session started by us asking each employee questions which they could only answer yes or no to and we had to guess their job from their answer.  This was really fun but quite hard.

After this, we had the chance to speak to each employee for 5 minutes and ask any questions we had about their job.  We also got to see any tools they use in their job.  This was interesting and it gave us more of an understanding of the jobs.

This was a fantastic opportunity for us to get to know more about the jobs we could do in the theatre.  We also learned what school subjects would be useful in the jobs, like English, Maths and Graphic Design.

We took part in the cricket festival at Clydesdale Cricket Club last week.  We competed against other schools in several games, putting out bowling, batting and fielding skills to the test.

Over the past couple of months, we have worked hard at cricket club on a Monday after school to get better at our cricket skills.  This hard work paid off as we played very well in each of our games.

Zack was very encouraging and gave us all a motivational speech and reminded us of the tactics we should be using to win.  Thanks Zack!

We won every match and won in our group.  We also won the entire festival overall as we had the most points.  Woohoo!!

 

This week we have taken on our first role as the Primary 7 of the school.  We met the nursery children who will be our new P1s.

It was so exciting to meet all the new children.  They were VERY cute and were excited to be at school.  We played with them and showed them where things are.

We loved making new little friends!

One girl made us laugh by pretending she was the teacher and Abeeha was her pupil!!

Well done to everybody who took part in the Cricket Festival this year at Clydesdale Cricket Club.
You all worked very hard on the day and had lots of fun.

We had an amazing week for digital learning week.  There were lots of opportunities for new learning in school and sharing our learning.

We were asked to work with Primary 3 and teach them some of the digital skills we know.  We decided to teach them how to log in on the desktop computer and how to carry out some tasks on the computer.  This was our plan for what we were going to teach:

We had lots of fun teaching the Primary 3 children but it was hard work because they didn’t always listen to us.  Is this how it feels to be a teacher?? 🧐🤭

We also taught the children in Primary 3 about coding.  This was so funny because we had to tell them what to do and they had to follow the instructions completely.

A group of us also went to the Apple Store in town.  We travelled on the subway which was handy because the Apple Store is just a short walk from Buchanan Street Subway Station.

When we arrived at the Apple Store, we met Jay and Laura who were leading our session that day.  They told us a bit about themselves and told us what their favourite app was.

We then told them what we know about the ‘clips’ app and they were so impressed.  After that, we learned about Zach King.  Zach King is famous for creating videos and making things disappear and appear in new settings.  His videos are so cool.  You can watch them on YouTube.

We split into groups to come up with ideas for our own films.  Jay told us we could transport people from one setting to another.

Once we had came up with our ideas, we started filming.  It was good to get some time to explore the clips app.  We learned how to use lots of the different parts of the app.

Some groups filmed part of their clip outside so that it would look like they started the filming inside and then magically transported outside.

It was really hard to do but the good thing about his app is that you can delete any scenes that have went wrong.  It was sooooo funny when things were going wrong time and time again.

After this, we showed all of the videos on the screen in the Apple Store.  It was fun to watch the other group’s films and see what they had done.  This app makes scenes look like magic.

Our trip to the Apple Store was so much fun and we learned lots.  We will definitely be back.
As a treat when we were heading back to school, we got ice-lollies as it was scorching and we were roasting!!  We ate them on the stairs at The Royal Concert Hall.  On the way back to school, we had a play in the park too.

Lastly, we made a film using the ‘Clips’ app.  We learned how to insert videos and pictures using this app and how to add in emojis and labels 😜🤩👏🏼😎🐛👍🏼  Here’s the film we created –

 

 

 

This week we went on a bug hunt with nursery children from both nurseries in Pollokshields.  We are getting to know these children as they will be our new Primary 1s in August and we will be their P7 buddies.

We used magnifying glasses to help us identify different bugs.  It was fun to get to know the nursery children and they were VERY CUTE!!

During Ramadan, our class are organising fundraisers to raise money for the charity Human Appeal.

Human Appeal is a charity which helps people who are living in poverty.  Any money we raise from our fundraisers will go to this fantastic charity so please support our fundraisers and donate any money you can.

The first fundraiser we organised was Crazy Hair Day which took place today.  Crazy Hair Day is so much fun because people spraypaint their hair different colours, put coloured gel in their hair, put glitter in their hair, spike their hair up and put lots of bobbles in their hair.
