STARTING IN P1-7 DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR
There can be lots of reasons why children need to move schools during the school year. Please contact me directly at victoria.tweed@fife.gov.uk to discuss your circumstances. It is helpful if you contact me as soon as you know your child is likely to need a school place at Tayport. Places are limited in some year groups at present. If you move into the catchment area and a place is not available, We can support you to find a place at the closest possible school, following Fife Council procedures. If you live out with the catchment area but wish your child to attend Tayport PS, you can make a placing request but you should contact me to discuss availability of places and the procedure for doing this.
STARTING P1 in August 2023
If your child turns 5 by the 16th August 2023, they will start P1 in August 2023. If they turn 5 by end February 2024, they can start P1 in August 2023 or you can choose to retain them for an additional nursery year. There are pros and cons to giving your child an additional nursery year and it is important to discuss this with your child’s key worker and Mrs Peterson before making the final decision. If you are considering an additional nursery year please discuss it with us as soon as possible. If your child attends a different setting, you should discuss it with the staff at that setting in the first instance. All decisions regarding nursery need to be finalised by the end of January 2023.

If your child turns 5 on or after 1st March 2023 then they aren’t old enough for school in August 2023 and they will continue in Nursery for an additional year. If you are happy with their current placement then you don’t need to do anything but if you want to change their setting you should reapply during January 2023 using the Fife Council online application form for session 2023-24 – this is now live until 31 January. See below:
Please note parents of children who have their fifth birthday on or before the first day of the academic session cannot apply for a deferred place. Any concerns about a child’s ability to start school should be discussed with the Headteacher and the link Educational Psychologist for the school, who will be able to provide advice.
