Introduction
At Tayport Primary School, we are delighted to be able to offer our Primary 6 and Primary 7 the opportunity to take part in Bikeability.
Bikeability Scotland training is a free, in-school programme that is supported by a network of qualified instructors, who are often teachers, parents, and members of the local community.
At Tayport, we are very grateful to former Headteacher Jane Holmes and David who deliver the training on a voluntary basis.
About the Training
Bikeability Scotland cycle training begins in an off-road setting and teaches children simple bike safety checks and control skills. This takes place in our playground.
Level 2 introduces roads and teaches children how to ride safely and responsibly in traffic.
Bikeability Scotland training can contribute to a child’s:
- Emotional, social, and physical wellbeing
- Education and attainment
- Hazard perception and awareness
- Confidence and self-awareness
Cycle training fits within the context of the Curriculum for Excellence by supporting specific Health and Wellbeing Experiences and Outcomes. Significant Aspects of Learning in Physical Education can also be applied directly to the activity of cycling.
Dates and Times
Bikeability training takes place on a Thursday over a number of weeks. For example, Level 2 training will be over a block of 6 weeks then Level 1 training will follow for a similar block.
As it is delivered by volunteers, the dates and times are subject to change.
Diverse weather conditions can also delay the training.
