Thank you to the many visitors to classes over the past few weeks – you made our world languages focus extra special.

Parent Council – sadly a new committee was not appointed at last week’s AGM.  The Parent Council has many important roles in a primary school.  It provides a discussion forum for school improvements, supports fund raising, and the running of school events.  Going forward not having a Parent Council will have an impact on our school calendar.  There is a small window of time in which if you would like to save the Parent Council and get involved you should email: tayportpcsecretary@gmail.com.

Book gift – As part of our gold reading school accreditation we will be gifting all pupils a book this Friday – children will be able to choose from a wide selection.

Dress down in a country of your choice – Friday 26th September – This date is “European Day of Language”, however we are keen to celebrate languages of the world.  Children and adults can wear an outfit of their choice linked to any country  on Friday.   National football or rugby (or whatever sport) tops could be worn or even a spot of tartan.

Data Capture Forms must be returned – these are vital to ensure your contact details and preferences are updated annually.  To date we have only received around half of the expected returns.

Our P7s ran an excellent house captain campaign over the past two weeks.  An impressive 25 children ran for election – the competition was fierce.  Following speeches and voting on Friday we are delighted to announce our house captains 2025-26:

Last week’s “Meet the teacher” event was a big success.  If you didn’t make it along you can access the information shared on your child’s class page on the school website: here. Remember that you will need your password to access the page.  You will also be able to view the class charter and the learning overview for this term.

During this term we are celebrating languages and would love for parents/carers who speak another language to share this with their child’s class.  Please complete the following short form if you are able to help and we will confirm day and time with you.  Thank you for your support.  On Friday 26th September we will have a dress down in a country of your choice day… more information to follow after MAD groups meet next week.

P6 and P7 School Lunches – unless you are entitled to free school meals school lunches must be paid for primary 6 and 7 pupils.  The cost is £2.60 and this should be paid on I-Pay.

Lost property – here is the collection of lost property from week one.  If you are missing items you can collect at the end of school day from the main office. Please put your child’s name on all items,

Annual data check and general permissions – these important documents will be issued this week.  Please check all details carefully and return by 12th September.

Meet the teacher for P1-7 -is this Wednesday 3 September from 3:15 – 4:15 pm.  This is an informal opportunity to meet your child’s teacher(s) and visit their learning environment.  The event tends to be fairly busy at 3:15pm so feel free to arrive at any point during the one hour window!  P1, P1/2 and P2/3 families only were offered one of two time slots.  The 3:15-3:45 pm has been most popular.

Our Digi-hub is still in its infancy but the doors will be open during “Meet the teacher” if you would like a look.  The Digi-hub is situated next to the office at the main door and Miss Gallacher will base herself there throughout the hour.

Meet the teacher – Wednesday 3rd September – 3:15-4:15 pm.  This is an informal opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, see their learning environment and a sample of what they have been doing since the start of term.  Following feedback from last year on how this event could be improved for P1, P1/2 and P2/3 we have split the Meet the Teacher timings into 3:15 – 3:45 or 3:45 – 4:15 pm.  An email was sent on Friday (22/08/25) to P1-P2/3 families asking them to choose their preferred slot.  We hope this will support a positive and calm meet the teacher experience for our younger pupils’ families.

Flu immunisation consent forms – please return these promptly this week, and by Friday at the latest.

Termly Learning Overviews will be shared next Monday.  These will include email addresses of you child’s teacher (s).

As we prepare for the children’s return to school on Wednesday 20^th August here are the lining up arrangements:

P2-P7 – 9am start.

P1 – 9:15 am start on Wednesday 20th August only.  The teachers will collect the line and bring children into school.

Here is an important reminder regarding children bringing mobile phones to school –  please read and discuss with your child – Mobile phones at Tayport PS

All children should bring a full water bottle daily.

Please put your child’s name on all school clothing and show them where to look for their name.  We appreciate that parents/carers support us by sending children to school looking so smart in their school uniform.  Also on gym days uniform is plain dark shorts or tracksuit bottoms, and a plain t-shirt with a school jumper.  No fake nails, makeup or dangling earrings.

If you’re out and about in Tayport today you might see that parts of the town have been “yarn bombed” to commemorate the 80th anniversary since the official end of World War 2 or VJ Day. The children were involved in this secret community project led by ladies from the Dolphin Centre craft group who came into school numerous times so children could sew the felt poppies.   Some of our younger children helped with the date signage on display from Mrs Tweed’s office window.

Staffing Updates for August

Miss Gallacher has a secondment for one year.  The post will see her working with specific pupils at Tayport and another Fife school.  Miss Irvine also has a secondment for one year in the role of raising attainment across Madras and Waid cluster.  Congratulations to both teachers.  Their secondments mean that Miss Harrison and Mr Myles will stay with us for a further year.

As shared earlier this month, Miss Trewartha is moving to Largoward Primary School from August.   As a consequence of this we welcome Miss Ramsay who is joining us from another Fife School. Her new class gave her a warm Tayport welcome this morning at their transition visit.
