Mrs Ferguson’s p4/5 Class Page 2023-24

(Scroll down for this week’s Homework)

Welcome to the P4/5 page!  There are currently 24 pupils in our class.

Our Classroom

To ensure adequate ventilation in our classroom, I will open windows regularly.  Please make sure your child dresses appropriately as the classroom may, at times, be cooler!

This week we worked in trios to create our own 3D flowers.  We labelled them as well to show the names of the parts of a flower.  Do you like our efforts?

Gym – Term 4

Gym is back to being on a Thursday morning with Miss Collins.  Please make sure your child wears gym clothes to school on Thursdays and brings a suitable hoodie / coat, in case we plan to be outside!

Topic

Our topic in Term 4 is Our Brilliant Bodies!  We are reading parts of the Adam Kay book, ‘Kay’s Anatomy’ and will be looking at topics such as Skin, Bones, Muscles, the Brain and the Heart.

Homework

Homework will be issued on a Wednesday and should be done by the next Monday.  Homework to be done will be uploaded to this website.   There will be a mixture of language, maths and other tasks linked to, for example, Topic, French or Health.  These will consolidate our learning in class.

Reading will usually be issued on the Monday, to be done for the next Monday.   Please take time to read with your child and encourage good pace and expression, as well as helping them with any difficult vocabulary or punctuation.  Please sign their Reading Record, so I can track that children are doing their reading.

Weekly Homework –

Wednesday 1st May 2024 – Homework (due by 6th May 2024)

*Literacy

1.Reading pages – these were issued on Monday and written in your Reading Record. Try to get a parent to hear at least part of your reading. Concentrate on expression, pace and noticing the punctuation.  Ask a parent to sign your Reading Record.

Please make sure your reading book is brought in every Monday so I can hear you read on Monday or Tuesday.

REMEMBER Reading for Pleasure! – keep reading for enjoyment, as well as just doing your homework reading.  Try to read a book of your choice for at least 10 mins every night.  Be ready to tell me what you are reading and whether you would recommend it to your classmates.  Happy reading!

2. Contraction Apostrophes – practise pushing two words together to make a contraction word. Play this game online:

  1.  https://wordwall.net/resource/117647/english/contractions
  2.  https://wordwall.net/resource/46533/english/apostrophe-omission

*Numeracy

We are currently working on money – recognising coins and notes, adding them together, rounding to the nearest pound and working out change.  Practising making amounts of money using the following game:

We will practise working out change next week.

IMPORTANT : Accessing Glow and Teams

We need to practise accessing Glow and Teams at home, in case we need to learn at home in the event of strikes or snow days.  I have given your child a sheet (their username and passwords included) to help you get into Glow and then click on the Teams tile.  Teams is a means of us communicating with each other and is also the way we would do video calls.   I have been practising this in class in our ICT on Fridays.  I will go over this again on Friday 22nd September.  Please work with your child to practise doing this at home.
