Masterton Primary School

P 4b

Hello everybody, welcome to P4b.

Our teachers are Mrs Houliston (Monday to Wednesday) and Mrs Murray (Thursday -Friday) and we have 27 pupils in our class.

We have P.E. on a Wednesday morning so please come to school dressed in P.E. kit. PE will be taken in the Drama Hall or outside.

In Maths and Numeracy, the focus will be on data analysis, fractions and multiplication.

We are looking at Mary Queen of Scots and some Scottish monster myths for our project work and literacy this term.

The children will have an introduction to the ukelele and the ocarina throughout the year.

We will notify you about homework tasks here on Wednesdays to be completed for the following Monday. This may be a paper sheet that is sent home, or a link to an online task such as Sumdog. There will be reading and one other subject task. Scroll down to see the homework.

Reading will begin coming home the week beginning the 28th August. You will find out your child’s reading day throughout this week. Each reading group will be sent home on a specific day with a wallet and record to be returned the same day the following week. The children therefore have a whole week to do their reading. Please sign the reading record, just to confirm  the reading has been done, thanks. For example, the Bats group will be heard on a Monday and they should return their wallet the following Monday.

Please free to bring a book from home to school which can be read during whole class reading time.

Sumdog is a fun way to improve your mental maths skills at home and in school.

Homework Wednesday 13th March

Reading group books as sent home.  We have been practising adding expression when reading in our groups.  As part of your homework I would like you to look for any questions or exclamations (look for the question mark or exclamation mark to help you) in your book: pick out one or two and think about how you can use your voice to add expression, then practise it.  Be ready to share next week, in our reading groups.

In maths we have moved on to our 6 x table so any practise you can do will help.  Below I have added links to a couple of division games which I’d like you to have a go at please.

Explore arrays and the link between multiplication and division here: Array Display || Models multiplication and The Commutative Law in multiplication (ictgames  .com)

For those who would like more practise using grouping as a strategy try this game:  Doggy Division Dinners (ictgames.com)

For those who would like to challenge themselves to see if they can solve division calculations mentally try this division demolition game: Demolition Division – Arcademics

Have fun while getting getting quicker and more accurate at your times tables and division facts.

Homework Wednesday 7th-14th March

Reading – group reading books as started in class.    World book day is on Wednesday 7th March.  Think about what you like to read at home and be ready to share with others.  This could be novels, fact books, comics, audio books or even following instructions from a recipe book.
Maths – have a go at matching the matching fractions game at ‪Fraction Matcher‬ (colorado.edu)
Also explore equivalent fractions at ‪Fractions: Equality‬ (colorado.edu)
P4b are working hard at becoming quicker and more confident at times tables.  We have just finished working on our 4 x table and are now looking at the 3 x table.  There are lots of times table activities on Topmarks, writing out times tables or practising saying them all help.  In class the children have been singing and dancing along to Freddie Shoehorn here  https://youtu.be/K8GeEp8ReOQ?si=cT_3PbLRvpptbeFV  and BBC Supermovers here KS2 Maths: The 3 Times Table – BBC Teach
I also suggested displaying the times table on the bathroom mirror and reading while brushing teeth – for those who are really keen!
