Our Ethos

Growing Together, Soaring to Success

At Carnegie Primary School our aim is to provide a positive ethos based on the core values of respect and kindness and ambition in which each child can achieve the highest possible standards and develop the skills for learning, skills for work and skills for life. We actively promote continuous improvement that involves pupils, parents, staff and our community.

Through high quality learning and teaching we ensure that every child experiences opportunities for achievement and success. We develop and encourage our pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors with a sound understanding of the world around them and Scotland’s place within it.

At Carnegie our over arching priorities are based on relationships, culture and learning, providing:

  • a nurturing environment in which children can develop the key personal qualities of resilience, perseverance, co-operation and a positive attitude to learning
  • challenging and stimulating learning linked to real, relevant learning contexts
  • high quality teaching of core skills (literacy, numeracy, ICT, learning and thinking skills, problem solving and enterprise
  • active engagement of each child in the development of their learning to become reflective learners who can discuss what they are learning, why they are learning and what they can do to improve
  • learning opportunities that are matched to each child’s individual need
  • a shared understanding of diversity and equality and promote this through our curriculum and school ethos
  • opportunities to demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equality and inclusivity through our work with children and families.
  • opportunities for every child to express their views and contribute fully to the life of the school.
