Eco Bricks at Carnegie

We built planters with our eco bricks to display at the entrance of our school.

At Carnegie, pupils from P6, go to Ardroy which links very well with our Eco Ethos. Children brought two trees from Ardroy that needed a “new home”.

We planted these trees in our planters and children in the Eco committee said that it was great so every child in the school will be connected to Ardroy and John Muir in some way.

Litter Picking at Carnegie

“I am very happy to see pupils at Carnegie being responsible towards helping the planet and showing respect for the environment”                                                      Mrs Journeaux

Pupil voice

P6B. “Our school playground is so much better now, it is clean and everyone understand that it is important to put rubbish in the bin.”

P4A. “I like the playground clean, the Eco committee always checks everything has been put away”.

P2A. “I like to put all my rubbish away in the bin at break and lunch times”

Janitor “My job it is now a lot easier, children are much more responsible within the school grounds.

Visiting the school kitchen

The Eco committee went to see the Kitchen staff at the school. We were having a great discussion with them about where the ingredients of our meals come from, how good are they, are they local, where are they produced and more.

As an idea Eco committee thought we could plant vegetables in our grounds and use to cook in the classrooms to talk about fresh ingredients and the importance of it.

Earth Week

Our first Earth Week was a great way to bring the school together to learn about Planet Earth and how to be responsible to it.

Everyone enjoyed taking part of all our tasks and we even got parents involved with projects at home.

Parent: She came home very excited to build something out of junk, it was fun doing it together”

P6 pupils: “ We had the best time sharing our junk models, they were so much fun”

P3 pupil: “ I loved going outside to use different materials to write Eco words, me and my friends made 6 words”

Eco mascot competition

Children had a great time designing and completing their mascots. Each class in the school chose three to go to the final process. Then, the Eco committee decided the finalist.

Eco member. “It was very hard to choose, there were lots of amazing mascots!”

Climate Action Week

The school took part of Climate Action Week workshops delivered by KSB.

Children were very enthusiastic about this and even during the strikes children were able to watch workshops at home and complete some of the tasks.

P5A “We love the lessons and we thought the stories read on the first day were very helpful to let us know that our voices are important.”

P6C “ I enjoyed watching the workshops from home,. My mum joined me and we loved learning about bees!”

P1B “I like share ideas about helping the planet with my class”
