Safer Internet Day

Primary 4 pupils had a group discussion about their online responsibilities and rights. Then we compared our online rights and responsibilities to our class charter only to find out that they are very similar! Next Primary 4 pupils completed ‘ A safer internet day quiz’ for which they got all the questions right!  It’s safe to say that P4s are very knowledgeable about how to keep themselves safe when using the internet!

Science Week in Primary 4

In Primary 4 we made hovercraft out of an old CD, a sports cap and a balloon.  We tested them on different surfaces.  I tested mine on water and it floated for a bit, but when the air was out it sank.  It worked the best on the lino because it was smooth and not too rough.

We made balloon racers from balloons, straws, bottles and junk.  The balloon was going to power the cars.  We had a race with Primary 7, to see whose went the furthest.  Aidan won for P7 and me and Shannyn won for P4.  We worked hard on our racer and had fun racing them.

In Science we made Rocket Mice.  We got a piece of paper and cut it into a cone shape.  We got a bottle put the mouse on the bottle, hit our hands against the bottle and made the mouse fly.  We tested different types of bottle to see which made the mouse fly highest.  We found out that the big fizzy juice bottle was the best.  We then got to decorate our mice too.

P4 visit Stirling University

On Wednesday 14th March, Primary 4 (and a few stowaway P5s) went to Stirling University to give a lecture on Moving Image.  We talked to students about how we use animation in the classroom and why it is a good thing to do.

Before that, we had lunch at the MacRobert Centre and a tour of the different spaces they have there.  We all had a great time, although we were a bit nervous about speaking to a lot of students!

You can see some of our animations here.

Roman Homework

Roman Homework

Primary 4 have been given a Roman Homework task grid.  We have to choose which tasks to do each week and bring them in.  We have made shields, postcards, Roman games, researched famous Romans, made entries for a soldiers diary, wrote a food diary and investigated countries that the Romans invaded.

We enjoyed making the shield and writing the postcard the most.

New Characters for Mario Kart

Primary 4 created new characters for Mario kart.  We then developed the basic description after studying how we could use a metaphor or simile to enhance our writing.

My  character  is  called  Catwoman  Zip  Zap, her  age  is  19, she  comes  from  Zip  Zap  Land, she  is  as spotted  as  a  cheetah, she  is  as  fast  as  a cheetah.  She is as strong as a Blue Whale!  Her personality  is  crazy, her  tool or power  is that she runs away  really  quickly.  Her favourite food is cheese.  Her favourite driver is Bowser!  By Laura

My character is called Leprechaun she has got blue hair as blue as the sea.  Her car is as spotty as a dalmation. Her dress is pink as a peach.  By Erin

My character is called Evil piggy.  He is angry as a volcano. He is blue as the sky. He is red as blood.  He is yellow as a lemon.  He is black as a bat. He’s got 3 eyes and is an alien.  His ears are big as a bear. He is smart as a professor. His mind is full of games. He is fast as a lamborghini!  By Harris

Mario Kart Race Timers

Primary 4 used mario kart to investigate time and averages.  A group timed another group racing a 3 lap race and then calculated the average lap time.  This did prove tricky for some, as we had to convert minutes and seconds to seconds first.  We recorded the information, and it looked a bit like this:

Driver: Jack
Character: Mario
Kart: Mario standard kart
Track: Toad’s Factory
Total time: 3 min`s 9 sec’s
Time taken for 3 laps: 189 sec’s
Average lap time: 63 seconds
