P3 Rain Gauges

We made rain gauges in class.  We go 3 bottles and cut them in half.  We put stones in the bottom so the bottles don’t blow away.  We turned the top around and put inside the bottom, like a funnel.   We made a scale on the side of the bottle using pen and tape.

We put gauges outside, one in the eco pod, one in the quiet area and one outside Miss McAulay’s office.  We are worried the pen might rub off, the bottles might blow away or the rain might over flow.  We will check on our experiment everyday to make everything is ok.

We checked on our gauges today.  There was no water because it hadn’t rained yet.  We think it might rain at the weekend and we will have some water in our gauges next week.

Our Evaporation Experiment

This is our evaporation experiment.  It is a glass of water; we leave on a sunny windowsill all the time.  The water has been turned green with food colouring.  Every week we check the level of the water.  We draw a circle around where the water is.  Each week the water goes down a little bit, it is evaporating.

Our topic is weather so we have learning about the water cycle.  Evaporation is an important part of the water cycle.

We are going to leave it for the whole of the October holidays to see what happens!

Science Week

We did lots of experiments and investigations duringscience week.  It was really fun trying all the different things.  I liked the rocket mice.  We had a challenge in the class to see whose mouse would go the highest.  We learned it depended where you hit the milk bottle and how hard you hit it.  We thought the smaller milk cartons worked best.  We tried some explosion experiments outside but they didn’t really work.  We used bicarbonate of soda and fizzy tablets.  Nicole and Teegan

Science Week in Primary 4

In Primary 4 we made hovercraft out of an old CD, a sports cap and a balloon.  We tested them on different surfaces.  I tested mine on water and it floated for a bit, but when the air was out it sank.  It worked the best on the lino because it was smooth and not too rough.

AJsinky

We made balloon racers from balloons, straws, bottles and junk.  The balloon was going to power the cars.  We had a race with Primary 7, to see whose went the furthest.  Aidan won for P7 and me and Shannyn won for P4.  We worked hard on our racer and had fun racing them.

Abster

In Science we made Rocket Mice.  We got a piece of paper and cut it into a cone shape.  We got a bottle put the mouse on the bottle, hit our hands against the bottle and made the mouse fly.  We tested different types of bottle to see which made the mouse fly highest.  We found out that the big fizzy juice bottle was the best.  We then got to decorate our mice too.

Science Week

This week is Science Week.  We have been doing lots of science experiments in our class.  We have tried balloon racers and we had lots of good ideas but they did not go.  Some worked but some did not work.  We were learning about friction and made cool space ships using cds and bottle lids.  Michael andRoss
