Rural Schools Athletics Championships June 7th 2011

A team of primary and secondary athletes competed at this annual event and although the weather was unkind on the day, the team displayed a good attitude throughout. We were not overall winners in any of the year groups, although there were some notable performances from individual athletes, namely Christina Macleod ( P6) who was dominant in the 100 and 200m and displayed perfect sprinting technique and strength – one to watch out for in  the future.

Peigi McKellar again demonstrated her dominance in the middle distance events and she won her 800m convincingly

2011 Crossroads Indoor Football Tournament

The annual Crossroads Football Tournament took place in Leverburgh Primary School on Tuesday the 24th of March with teams from all 4 of the Harris Primary schools competing.  As ever, the competition was close with some thrilling games of football being played and as was the case last year, from the four qualifying sections, 2 Sir E. Scott teams, a Leverburgh and Scalpay team progressed to the Semi-finals.
Scalpay Rovers met Leverburgh Lightening in the first Semi and it was an exciting game. Leverburgh played very well, However, Scalpay Rovers proved too strong for them and they progressed to the final winning 5-0.
The second semi was the SES Tigers against the SES Stars and this was an entertaining game with end to end action. However, after taking the lead 1-0, SES Tigers went on to lose the match 2-1, with two goals from Andrew Morrison.
The final between the SES Stars and Scalpay Rovers was an enthralling and closely fought game with the Stars taking an early lead and capitalised by scoring another two goals to make it 3-0. Scalpay Rovers did manage to get a consolation goal through Daniel Macleod, but was too late for a comeback and lost 3-1.
Playing in the final:
SES Stars: Andrew Morrison, Katherine Morrison and Erin Murray.
Scalpay Rovers: James Morrison, Andrew Morrison and Daniel Macleod.
In the running for the  ‘Player of the Tournament’ Trophy there were a variety of players from all of the school teams who displayed  a high level of skill,  goal scoring ability and fitness throughout the tournament. However, Daniel’s contribution in terms of goal scoring, with an amazing 24 goals in the tournament, as a member of Scalpay Rovers meant that he would be the recipient of the award this year. Well done Daniel!
Many thanks must go to; ‘Crossroads’ for sponsoring the tournament, Katie Macleod and Morag Munro for the refreshments and presentation of the tournament prizes. Leverburgh school for being great hosts!!!
Many thanks to all of the parents, friends and staff who accompanied the children and gave such great vocal support to their respective teams throughout the evening.
Special mention must go to the volunteer coaches from each community who have worked with their teams running up to the competition- many thanks for all of the time and effort you have given.
Finally, thank you very much to Derek Mackenzie, Sade Martin and Donald Morrison who organised the tournament and assisted with the refereeing duties.

Highland Schools Swimming Championships

542924_s10 Sir E. Scott pupils competed at the HIghland Schools Swimming Championships in Inverness on Wenesday 10th November.

With an early start of 5.15am it was always going to be long day but the attitude and beahaviour shown by the squad was exemplary and they were a credit to the school.

As this was the Highland regional Champioships the standard of swimming was extremely high and our swimmers also had to contend with completely different surroundings, including a longer pool, the use of starting blocks and official ‘Omega’ timing pads.

However, all of the swimmers acquitted themselves well and showed a good standard of technique and fitness in their races and sporting their new ‘Harris Swim Club’ tracksuits they certainly looked like a professional squad.

Many thanks must go to Cammy and Maria for their diligent organisation and supervision throughout and also for not falling asleep themselves whilst I was driving.

The squad were:

Samantha, Sade and jamie Martin

Ali Maclennan

Stuart Morrison

Moreen Maclennan

Anna Macleod

Peigi McKellar

Aneeka Toor

Andrew Morrison
