Today we continued our Super Skills lessons. Mrs Horne’s group are creating clips. We look forward to seeing the finished work at the end of the block!
Festive Slime
We continued our chemical reactions topic today by investigating slime. We carried out a fair test to discover whether using more glue makes the slime more bouncy. It definitely does! We also developed our report writing skills as we conducted the experiment.
Homework 25th November, Due Friday 29th November
Spelling – Identify and spell words using the spelling rules for Week 8 and 9 words on spellingcity.com. See previous homework for further details.
Reading Passport – Begin your Reading Passport by completing your basic information, writing about the book you are currently reading, setting yourself 3 interesting reading challenges and writing about your den building challenge from last week.
Numeracy – Group measure task sheet. Complete this work in your numeracy homework jotter. If calculations are included please show working as discussed in class.
Science – Be on the look out for chemical reactions you may see everyday. Clues that a chemical reaction may have taken place, rather than just a physical reaction, include colour changes, gas released or texture change. At least one new substance must be formed and usually you can not go back to the original state. We discussed some examples and exceptions this week in class. Can you write four more in your numeracy jotter under your maths work?
Reading to P2
This morning we read Fairy Stories we wrote with Mrs Jamieson to Mrs Wallace’s class. They really enjoyed our stories!
Reading Dens
To finish Book Week we completed our first reading challenge: we made reading dens in class this afternoon. We had a wonderful time getting snug and cosy to enjoy our favourite books.
Book Day Activities – Friday
Tomorrow we will be reading our stories to P2a in the morning. After break we will be holding the P6 Book Swap in our room. Bring in a book you have enjoyed but would like to swap. You will place your no longer required book on the tables and can take any other book from the table to replace it. It is now your book to enjoy (and swap next year). We will be den building in the afternoon. Bring a onesie, dressing gown or cosy jumper, covers and blankets, a pillow and a good book to read (not swap). We will turn over our desks to make cosy nooks and enjoy reading together. You can even brig your favourite cuddily toy to keep you company!
Dancing Raisins
By Jonny
Dancing Raisins
We first got a beaker then we added 200ml of water. Next we put 10 raisins into the water after that we dropped 1 Alka-seltzer. After that everything started to bubble. At first the raisins sunk to the bottom but then it floated up and down.
Shadow Puppet Theatre
This wek we completed our light and sound topic by using shadow creatively. We had to design shadow puppets which were recogniseable to tell a well known story. We then showed the class our shadow puppets. Every group was a success. We used our puppets to act out Humpty Dumpty, Goldielocks and the Three Bears, The Gingerbread Man and The Three Pigs.
Our Writing – The Best Day
On Wednesday, in writing, we were learning how to write a story using interesting openers and volcabuary. We walked around using our books and our imaginations, trying to think of different words or phrases to suit the titles on our group’s paper, and then moved to the next poster. We had lots of good ideas and used them to plan. Alexander E decided we should add using three interesting words in one of our descriptions to our success critereia. Next week we will be redrafting our stories and improving them using our success criteria and volcabuary pyramids.
