Today we enjoyed activities organised by the Sports Leaders, making the most of the nicest day of 2020 far!
Emma – It felt really good to be outside in the nice weather. We worked in teams and played passing games. My groups strategy was to stay as far away from the other team as possible to give plenty of space to pass and so that they couldn’t intercept.
This morning we worked our whole bodies during a very active P.E. session! We worked at different stations. There were 16 areas. We worked at them for a minute and then Mrs Horne blew the whistle and we moved on. Mrs Horne also chose partners that were working hard and they got to have a minute on the trampoline in the middle of the circuit. For some stations one person worked for half the time and then Mrs Horne clapped and we swapped.
Annie liked the hula hoop as she is quite good at it so it is fun. Maya wasn’t keen on passing the football, which shocked a lot of the class. Alexander E really likes football so he loved that station. Samantha enjoyed Around the World, passing a weight around her legs in a figure of eight, and then round her body, as she likes lifting and is strong. Ruby found the press-ups really got her body working and made her warm. Hannah found the press-ups hard. Ethan said the shuttle-runs made his heart pound in his chest. Gavin said the star jumps made his heart race the most. Emma’s favourite minute was when she had a turn on the trampoline.
Katie enjoys circuits as she thinks it would keep her fit and healthy. Alasdair said it was fun as they got to do lots of different exercises at the one time. Emma said it was good because stations that worked you hard were mixed in with stretching circuits so you kept energy to keep going.
This week in PE we applied our skills moving with and passing the ball and worked on increasing our awareness of team members and the opposition. In one activity we worked in pairs dribbling forward and shooting a basket then the opposition collected the ball from the rebound. In another we used a rugby ball and had to drive the ball forward through our area while the opposition tried to block us. When we successfully made it to our end line we passed to the next member of our team until we reached the end and scored a try. In our final activity we worked in teams of five, marking a member of the opposition who were trying to pass the ball five times to score a point. If we intercepted we tried to pass five times.
We realised when playing another team we have to be aware of where the person we are marking is, but also who has the ball and where it is going next. It is a lot to think about!
Over the last two weeks we have been looking at the All About Me topic in a different way. We decided to learn about ourselves and each other in maths. We measured our height, our stride, our head circumference and our arm span. When Mrs Horne said we were going to put our results into graphs Shravan asked if we could do a graph looking at height and age. We made a scatter plot to see if there was a trend. We thought height might increase with age but there was no link between the two. We also mader a graph using excel.
In art we looked in more detail at our shoes creating line drawings with pencils. We used shading to show the shape of the shoe and if it was darker in some bits.
I enjoyed P.E. outside this week. I learned about dribbling and demonstrated the skills we were learning. I also enjoyed science. We have been making electric circuits and will be looking more into how they work soon!
I enjoyed writing. It was part of All About Me. I wrote about my personality and my strongest subjects and the ones I need more help in.
