Today, in class, we talked about starting a class tables challenge in January. Then this afternoon, coincidentally, I received an email letting me know there is a Sumdog Tables Holiday Challenge.
It begins on the 20th of December and runs until the 9th of January. The winners will be the class with the most correct answers over the course of the challenge. Sumdog goodie bags will be awarded to the winning class and runners up!
In order to prepare for this, as accuracy is key, I have set up two mini-challenges, one over the next two days, and one next week, which you can try if you have time. This is completely optional, as is the Sumdog Challenge, however both would definitely help you to develop your speed and accuracy in preparation for our own class challenge!
To join the challenge log in to your Sumdog account. After you complete the warm up activity select the green button (x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7)  underneath the blue ‘Maths’ button. This will take you to the tables section. You will see that this week’s challenge is to complete 50 questions.
Good Luck!
If you are able, please bring your charged devices to school on Thursday.
If possible could you download the Teams app to your device if you were unable to access Teams this week before Thursday.
Thank you!
This morning we read Fairy Stories we wrote with Mrs Jamieson to Mrs Wallace’s class. They really enjoyed our stories!
Tomorrow we will be reading our stories to P2a in the morning. After break we will be holding the P6 Book Swap in our room. Bring in a book you have enjoyed but would like to swap. You will place your no longer required book on the tables and can take any other book from the table to replace it. It is now your book to enjoy (and swap next year). We will be den building in the afternoon. Bring a onesie, dressing gown or cosy jumper, covers and blankets, a pillow and a good book to read (not swap). We will turn over our desks to make cosy nooks and enjoy reading together. You can even brig your favourite cuddily toy to keep you company!
P6a’s BYOD day is this Thursday. Devices will be connected to the school WiFi in order to facilitate pupils using their devices to enhance lessons through the day. Any devices brought into school will not be used during break or lunch.
This afternoon we joined other P6 and P7 members of our houses to listen to the candidates for the Kirkhill Parliament. They had prepared speeches, explaining the qualities they had which would make them a great house captain and then we voted for the most persuasive candidate. All candidates for all houses were very confident and impressive. It was an exciting afternoon.
I have attached below the information which you will also have received through the Friday Bundle. If you wish toi submit an entry for the competition you are welcome to work on this over the holidays. You will also have the opportunity to complete this as your homework task for the first week back. Any entries should be brought in on Friday 25th October 2019., with your name, age, class and school on the reverse.
Today two visitors came in the morning and joined us while we were doing our science work. They were the new girls who will be joining our class in a few weeks. They joined in during science. We were testing the circuits we had looked at last week to see if our predictions were right or wrong. We realised quite quickly when we actually made the circuit that diagrams without the battery symbol wouldn’t have any power. We also saw that two bulbs with one battery are dimmer than one bulb would be. The girls are twins and they were both lovely. We were all very excited to meet them and were happy when they were able to stay at break time too!

Unsurprisingly there was overwhelming support across Kirkhill during our ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ event where pupils wore items of red to show they would not tolerate racism of any kind. In P6a we had long red socks, red tops, hair bobbles, some even wore red from head to toe! In P6a we recognise that Everyone is Different and Everyone is the Same!
