P5A’s Learning This Week

Literacy:
Daisy- In writing, we made a spooky story where we structured it with a beginning, middle and end. We created both a creepy character and we had a scary setting!
Inaaya- We have been learning how to find information from a text.

Numeracy:
Myra- The circles have been revising multiplying two digit numbers with exchanging and dividing two digit numbers with exchanging and remainders.
Lewis- The triangles have also been learning how to multiply two digit numbers with and without exchanging.
Mariam- The squares have been revising multiplication word problems and we have been learning how to multiply by six.

RME:
Olivia- We have been learning about prejudice and we created posters this week for Show Racism The Red Card.

Expressive Arts: 
Ava- This week, we drew self portraits, but in Tim Burton style!

Outdoor Learning:
David- This week, we were learning mapping and orienteering skills.

Technology:
Matthew- We took part in a Glasgow Science Centre competition where we designed, engineered and problem solved to create a bridge.

We also had some Halloween party fun this Friday afternoon! I hope you all have a great Halloween weekend 🙂

Back to School!

I hope you all had a lovely October break. The children have all come back eager to learn and got straight back in to working hard- well done P5a!

Numeracy:
Sophie C- The Squares have been revising multiplication and division this week. We have also been learning how to multiply by six as well as chance (probability).
Lewis- The Triangle have been revising the greater than, less than and equal to symbols. We have also been learning how to find the area of shapes.
Cormac- The Circles have been learning about product and we made leaflets to conclude our learning on factors, multiples and product. We also continued our work on symmetry. 

Literacy: 
Inaaya- This week, we continued to write about setting!
Ethan- In spelling, we practised more of the “long e” sound and in reading we were learning how to find information.

Health and Wellbeing: 
Kerr- We started our growth mindset topic this week.
Ace- Our bounceback lesson was about humour and how it can help us cope during tough times. We had lots of fun rating jokes and telling the class our own!

Expressive Arts: 
Yi Chen- We drew a silhouette using pen on a colour wash background that we made last week.

RME:
David- We have been learning about stereotypes and how you can’t assume things about people based on what they look like (name, nationality, religion or job).

Outdoor Learning:
Murdo- We collected leaves and used them to create a leaf person!

 

This Week’s Learning

Primary 5 have been very busy and definitely deserve the upcoming holiday. I hope you all have an amazing October week and I can’t wait to hear all about it when you are back!

Literacy:
Morven- We have been practising to scan for information.
Myra- In writing, we have been learning how to describe a setting using our five senses.
Harley- In spelling, we have been learning the ‘long e’ sound.

Numeracy: 
David- The circles have been learning about multiples.
Lewis- The triangles have been practising place value.
Evie- The squares have been learning how to divide 2 digit numbers with remainders.

RME:
Jack- We have been learning about Patron Saints and their celebrations. We did a whole class quiz afterwards to test our knowledge!

Topic: 
Zara- We were finishing off our Africa topic with music and dance! We learned about different African and Scottish instruments and we listened to songs to compare. We even got to play the African Drums!
Expressive Arts: 
Zara- As part of our topic, we then learned a traditional African dance called Dinhe and then we learned ceilidh dances.
We also learned the lyrics and meaning of the song “Waka Waka” which our class loves, where we sang along and danced- it was lots of fun!

Woodland: 
Ethan- We made clay creatures that we would find in the woodland area! Then we went outside to play and to see if we could see any of the creatures we made.

 

 

Our Two Short Learning Weeks!

Due to the September weekend taking place, we decided to merge our two short learning weeks together in to one big blog post!

Literacy:
David- We have been learning the skills of skimming and scanning!
Sara- Last week we learned how to describe a character in our writing and this week we have learned how to describe setting.
Zara- We have been practising the sound ‘long a’ in spelling.

Numeracy:
Myra- This week was Maths Week Scotland so we did lots of fun activities to complete and we discussed how Maths is used in the real world.
Myra- The circles have been learning all about factors!
Taylor- The squares have been learning how to divide 2 digit numbers.
Ava- Last week we were practising division and now we have been learning about thousands, hundreds, tens and units (place value).

RME: 
Jamie MacKenzie- We have been learning about role models. We researched our own role models and presented them in class today

Topic: 
Heena- We have been learning about African food! Last week, we learned about where different fruit and vegetables come from in Africa and how they grow and we did a Kahoot quiz afterwards. We also learned about African meal times and traditions and compared it to Scottish meals! We drew a plate of half an African meal and half Scottish.

Jamie MacKenzie- This week we learned about where chocolate comes from, how it is made and Fair Trade. We had a class debate about Fair Trade products and then we did a chocolate taste test to see if we could predict which one is Fair Trade!

Expressive Arts: 
Christopher- Last week we were practising being able to draw from observation. We drew a closed umbrella and an open umbrella using chalk and charcoal using lines, shapes and patterns. This week, we continued our drawing skills but we focused on  design and style- where we had to create sunglasses for a certain type of person!    

Outdoor Learning: 
Mariam- We were using our senses to explore the woodland last week! We closed out eyes and listened for sounds, we smelled the grass and then we collected objects for our partners to touch with their eyes closed to see if they could guess what it was. This week we collected items and we had to use them for a performance in our groups! It was really funny.

Primary 5A’s Week

Our Learning: 

Numeracy:
Yi Chen- We have been learning how to divide by 2,3 and 4!
Cormac- We have been revising how to multiply by 6 and 7.
Sophie C- We have been learning how to multiply 2 digit numbers by using the ‘chimney’ method.

Literacy:
Kerr- In writing, we have been learning about character descriptions and how to ‘show not tell’.
Myra- We have been continuing the reading skill of prediction!

Expressive Arts:
Murdo- We have been developing our drawing skills by using line and shape.

Outdoor Learning:
Evie- We were learning about different types of camouflage! We then made animal cards that we camouflaged in the woodland area and we had to find them. We even found a real life frog that was hiding in the grass!

Topic:
Jamie F- We have been learning about African landmarks and Scottish landmarks. We researched them ourselves on the chromebooks and created adverts for each landmark.

P5A’s Learning Week

Our Learning:

Numeracy
Ace- We were learning how to add and subtract 3 digit numbers with carrying.
Lewis- We have been practising our three and four times tables.
Jack- We have been revising our 2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables and division.

Literacy
Matthew- Our class has been continuing the skill of prediction.
Daisy- We were creating characters in our writing!

RME
Isam- We were discussing and researching modern day role models.

Topic
We have been looking at African Artists and comparing them to Scottish Artists.

Expressive Arts
We have been using different materials in art to shade and create tone and texture.

 

Our Week in P5a!

Our Learning:

Ethan- In RME, we learned about The Good Samaritan and it was really fun acting out the story with our friends.

Olivia- In Maths, I learned how to add two digit numbers and we revised our 2, 3 and 4 times tables. I also liked the mental maths games we played (Countdown and Daily 10).

Lucas- I learned how to add 3 digit numbers with carrying!
Maya- We revised our 3 and 4 times-tables through lots of games like Multiplication Jenga!

Inaaya- We learned how to make predictions in Literacy this week.

Zara- We also started our new class topic, Africa, where we mapping and making predictions about their climate and lifestyle differences. We then learned about African Artists and had lots of discussions about their work.

Welcome to P5a

A warm welcome to the P5a blog!

We have had a fantastic start to the new school year and the pupils have settled in really well. Miss MacMillan and Mrs Fry have enjoyed getting to know the children and finding out all their exciting summer news.

Our learning 

Morven – In PE, we have been learning to play tennis. We were learning about the different ways you can hit the ball. We practised rallying with a partner.

Daisy – I am excited about the Africa topic we are starting because we are going to be looking at African art and I really like art. Literacy has also been fun because we got to listen to a movie and guess what it was about before watching it. My prediction was quite close!

Lewis – I have enjoyed practising my times tables. We went round different stations and I liked playing bingo, the card games and going on the chromebook.
