Through this short survey Scottish Government would like you to help them find out what matters to parents about their school and their child’s education, focusing on what needs to be done to make the improvements we all want to see. The survey will close on October 16th and will inform the annual report for the National Improvement Framework parental involvement driver.

One of our parents Mrs Kelly West, is a trained instructor and will be holding a series of 5 sessions in the school hall at 9-10am on Mondays 11th September, 18th September, 2nd October , 23rd October and 30th October. We would love as many parents as possible to take advantage of this excellent and relaxing way to start the week! Please let the school office or Mrs Hamilton know if you intend to join us or respond to the email/text that will go out about this opportunity this week.
In listening to your views over this past year, this session we have started running informal family coffee sessions and so far these have been very successful. It has been a great opportunity for parents/carers to hear about the priorities of the school but also get to know other parents with children of a similar age. Already we have had lots of great suggestions about how to further develop genuine parental engagement in St Mark’s.
As you know last session we created and opened our ‘Family Room’ we would love this to be used as often as it could both informally and for more formal workshops.
The ‘Family Room’ will be opened Tuesday to Friday mornings from 8.45am until 9.45am if parents/carers would like to come in for a coffee with other parents/carers – it’s much warmer than the playground for a chat!
As a result of discussions at one of the coffee afternoons the Family Room is now opened from 3pm so that parents/carers and their children can use the room to complete homework in a relaxed environment without the distractions that can occur at home.
Many Thanks
Christine Healey

Skye Murray from P2b, pictured her wth her mum and Susan Harrison from Marie Curie when they dropped off a cheque to the Glasgow hospice in June,
Skye held a fundraising event during the school holidays; a “blooming great tea party” in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. She invited friends and teachers from school, family, friends and neighbours and managed to raise £520 for the charity. It was all her own idea, she made decorations, posters, wrote invitations, baked cakes and collected money. We are very proud of what Skye has achieved!
