National Galleries Scotland – Your Art World

Welcome to Your Art World

We are really excited to announce the launch of National Galleries Scotland’s Your Art World!

Three of our talented and very articulate pupils were selected to form part of a special artistic steering group at Scotland’s most prestigious National Galleries.

Art Club is a new network for 5-18 year olds across Scotland, to develop and celebrate their creativity through visual arts.  Every term they will post a new set of art challenges designed by children, for children. The aim is to inspire you to think, wonder, make and share your art in National Galleries Scotland’s online gallery. It could be 2D, 3D, film, animation, performance, writing or anything else you can think of.

Our pupils have taken part in workshops with the Galleries’ Artists and have now set the nation an Art challenge! No mean feat! This term, they focussed on “Words. What can they make us feel, see, create?”

The launch is now live! Click on the links below to see our confident, articulate pupils challenge the country to create. You can also watch some professional artists respond.

Can these talented pupils challenge you and your family? We’d love to see what you create in response!

ART-iculate

A literacy and Visual Arts Adventure

This term ART-iculate 2016 has a photography twist. This is a fantastic opportunity for P6 and P7 children to immerse themselves in analysing some of the world’s most iconic photographs.

This year’s choice to analyse/ read photography ties in with the theme of St Mark’s Art Show, which is contemporary photography. This will be led and delivered by the pupils of photography club. A challenging project!

P7 and P6 will be given an opportunity this term to choose and research a photograph from a portfolio of images ranging from 1932 surrealists, graphic designers to photo journalists of 1980’s.

They will then take part in an upper school ART-iculate competition, to orally present their findings. The finalist will compete in St Mark’s Art Exhibition, 2016. There will be guests in attendance as well as invited judges from SCRAN and Education Scotland.

BBC- The L.A.B Scotland

This week P7a created 4 short films to be shown as part of the BBC’s LABvent calendar. The first animation will be shown today, the second on the 14th December and on the 24th December. The BBC clips have had an average of 50 000 views online so the children are very excited to see each of their videos added over the coming weeks. You can view the first film by following the link below.

Art

Primary Four have been celebrating the Turner Prize coming to Glasgow by looking at Scottish contemporary artists. They loved the bold colours used in Jolomo’s paintings and were inspired to replicate the cottage and lighthouse scenes. Pupils enjoyed mixing colours and exploring how shades effect the emotions of their painting. We then created our own ‘artist’ names using the first two letters from our first, second and surnames.
