Our annual Sports Day led by our active schools coordinator will take place on Friday 19th June (weather permitting) in the school grounds at the following times:

9:30am-10:30am – Primary 1-3

Parents and carers are invited along to join us.

Brake’s Giant Walk

St Mark’s participated in Brake’s Giant Walk to raise awareness of road safety  We were joined by parents, the police, ambulance crew and the fire brigade. The children showed their banners and posters as they marched to the Main Street. The school was joined by St John’s and then continued the walk to Cowan Park where Pulse FM provided music and Tesco generously offered every child a snack and drink.

You can hear our BBC Radio Scotland interview by following the link below. The interview begins at 2:25:30

A Note from St Mark’s Junior Road Safety Officers:

“We have enjoyed planning and taking part in the Giant Brake Walk this year. During the walk we handed out leaflets promoting road safety and collecting donations for the charity Brake. We enjoyed speaking to members of the community about road safety and joining up with St John’s. Once we had arrived back in school we counted the money and we raised a total of donations which was £33.22. Tesco also gave us some food and drinks, so we are very grateful for that.”

Articulate and Art Show

The St Mark’s Art Show took place on Thursday the 21st May. This year the pupils had a slightly different agenda, the primary 6/7 pupils took part in Art-iculate, this was an opportunity for solo talks based on paintings by The Glasgow Boys and Girls. All four classes were immersed in the works of the Glasgow Boys and Girls, they began this Literacy and Art Adventure at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries where they attended workshops tailored to this topic. The finalists were judged by Ron Cowie Senior Education Officer at Education Scotland, Alan Horn Director of Development Glasgow School of Art and Muriel Gray Chair of the Glasgow School of Art Board of Governors. No pressured there! The pupils were outstanding and received a lot of acclaim from distinguished guests. Sophie and Emily  were the two overall champions. All the finalists have been invited to spend a morning at the Glasgow School of Art before the end of term. What an achievement.

Walk to School Week, 18th-22nd May 2015

WTS-web-button

Every year Living Streets’ Walk to School Week brings together nearly one million schoolchildren, teachers and parents. Each day of Walk to School Week will explore a different health benefit of walking to school.

    • Daily exercise keeps us fit and healthy. Walking is good for our hearts, lungs, muscles and bones.
    • Children that walk to school arrive more alert and ready to start the day. Walking can also have a positive effect on your mood.
    • Getting into the habit of an energetic walk at the start of the day can also encourage healthy eating habits such as having a nutritious breakfast every morning.
    • The whole family can get fit walking to school. It’s also a great time to spend quality time together and chat about your day.
    • Gas from cars pollutes the air. If more people walk, there will be fewer cars and less pollution. Cleaner air is better for us and our planet.
