Day of Charitable Fundraising – Thursday 13th October

Missio Scotland
To continue to raise awareness of the fabulous work of Missio Scotland we will have a ‘Crazy Hair Day’ on Thursday 13th October.  During the day pupils will take part in lessons focused on faith and fundraising.  Pupils are invited to come to school with ‘crazy hair’ and class teachers will speak to them about children around the world who need their help and prayers.  Why not follow up this day by praying the mission rosary as a family?  http://missio.scot/school-resources-2/mission-rosary-resources/

Show Racism the Red Card
We will also be taking part in Show Racism the Red Card ‘Wear Red Day’ on the same day Thursday 13th October.  This is to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the Charity.  Pupils will take part in activities in class to learn how to fight racism.  Pupils are encouraged to wear an item of red clothing to demonstrate their stance against racism.

Please note this day should be awareness raising and fundraising.  We do not want parents to go to any expense in buying outfits etc.  Pupils can either have crazy hair or wear something red or just wear their own clothes or do all three if they choose.  All we ask is that each pupil brings in a donation which will be split between the two charities.

House Day – Monday 10th October

To celebrate our house achievements so far this year, we are holding a House Day on Monday 10th October. Pupils should come to school dressed in house colours. Please do not go to any expense to buy new clothes – one item of clothing in the house colour is absolutely fine. Throughout the day, the children will work in their house groups and they will participate in a variety of engaging workshops. Primary 5 pupils will be going outside for 2 of the workshops so please send a waterproof jacket and suitable shoes. No donation is required for the house day. Tune into Twitter for some photos!

***Greetings Cards Information ***

Greetings cards design forms should have made their way home to you. Most children received these on Thursday – if you have not received them please ask your child to check their tray / bag.

DESIGNS , ORDER DETAILS AND PAYMENTS NEED TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL BYMONDAY 3rd OCTOBER. (Cheques payable to OLM PSA)

Designs should be drawn on the A4 sheet and stuck into the form.

We are also looking for helpers from 12-2 on Wednesday 5th October to sort cards for sending off to the company. Please emailolm-psa@hotmail.com if you can help.

The card company is different this year as it has a reputation for a quicker turnaround (we didn’t get this option last year) and also gives more card design options (Christmas / Birthday / Thank-you / or blank for your own message). As it is a different company, mugs are not available to order this year.

Any questions, please contactolm-psa@hotmail.com, or see our Facebook page (OLM PSA)

Thanks

Confirmation Rite of Enrolment 19/20th November 2016

JOSEPH’S CHURCH
There will be a short Rite of Enrolment during all masses on the weekend of 19th and 20th  November in St. Joseph’s Church. This is for all children who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Mirin’s Cathedral on 26th April 2017.
Parents should bring their child to any Mass and ideally sponsors should attend, if they live locally. Sponsors should be over the age of 16 and a practising Catholic. Father will address the parents, sponsors, children and then the parish community asking that we all work together to support the children in their preparation to receive the Holy Spirit.
Children should wear their own clothes, NOT school uniform.
The children will be writing a letter to Bishop John, asking to receive the Sacrament. They will outline the reasons why they have chosen their saint’s name as an inspiration in their daily lives.
We will send the letter home so that it can be counter signed by parents/carers. They will present this letter to Fr. Jim at the Mass.
