P5 CHOIR MEMO

P5 CHOIR MEMO

Dear Parent/Carer,

Following the letter regarding the school choir performing at the Glasgow Music Festival on Tuesday 15th March, we have important information for the parents/carers of Primary 5 children wishing to attend on the day. Due to the number of children in the choir this year, we are required to split the Primary 5 children between the two performances.

Primary 5c and d will be performing in the Hymn Singing category at 11:45am.

Primary 5a and b will be performing in the Scots Song category at 3:45pm.

When the children are not performing, they will be supporting the choir as members of the audience.

Sir Charles Wilson Lecture Theatre (1, University Avenue)

Professor Tracey Rowland – John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family (Melbourne, Australia)  – Catholic Education: A Theological Project

 Summary
A Catholic vision of education is built upon a Catholic anthropology.  A basic Catholic theological principle is that everything in creation has been marked by the form of the Trinity, and this is especially so of the human person.  Trinitarian relationships abound in nature as mathematicians tell us, and within Catholic anthropology there is a highly important Trinitarian relationship between faculties of the human soul, such as the intellect, the memory and the will, and the theological virtues of faith, hope and love, and the transcendental properties of being, principally, truth, beauty and goodness.  Getting these anthropological foundations right was the secret of the success of the great religious educational orders.

Professor Rowland is the Dean and Permanent Fellow of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family, Melbourne, Australia.

To register for the lecture please email Arlene Burns, putting ‘Cardinal Winning Lecture 2016’ in the subject box: arlene.burns@glasgow.ac.uk

Catholic Education Sunday – 31st January 2016

Next Sunday is Catholic Education Sunday, marking the start of a week when we celebrate the importance of educating children and young people in faith.

During Catholic Education Week we will reflect on how we are “Learning to be Merciful”. This learning takes place in homes as well as schools, in workplaces as well as churches.  We must all be “witnesses to mercy”.

To celebrate the launch of Catholic Education week we are asking all pupils to wear their school uniform to Mass on Sunday 31st January.

During Catholic Education Week pupils will be involved in a variety of events including Agap drama, Assemblies and SCIAF workshops.

It would be great to be able to offer the children as many engaging opportunities as possible throughout the course of the week.
