Primary 1 Information

It has been an exciting start to P1 and the children have all settled well into their new routines. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support. There are a few matters that I would like to clarify and these are detailed below.

Reading  Your child has recently received some words (either in a box or little bag). The words are “look and say” words and will begin to form and develop your child’s sight vocabulary for reading. Please encourage your child to read these words each night until he/she can read them from memory. As more words are added you can begin to support your child to form sentences. This will build upon and reinforce what we are doing in class. We would be grateful if you ensured that these words are returned to school every day.

PE   The children require two PE kits: one for indoor PE days and one for outdoor PE. You have already received information about which days your child participates in PE. Indoor PE kits should stay in school until the teacher sends them home, either at a long weekend or at the end of term. Outdoor PE kits can come home when needed; I appreciate that many children use these for after-school activities. If you wish the outdoor PE kit to stay in school then that is acceptable too. However, please bear in mind that if the PE kits get wet then they will be sent home.

Wet Morning Arrangements  Please note that if it is raining in the mornings when you arrive at school, the mensa door (on the right-hand side of the building) will be opened early to allow children to shelter from the rain.

Clothing  Please make sure that all items of clothing are clearly identified with your child’s name; this will help us to ensure that jumpers, skirts etc are not lost.

Curriculum Evening  We are hosting a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session in the school on Wednesday 4th September from 6-7pm. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about the coming year and to learn more about the curriculum your child will be following in P1.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
