Wilbur & Niso Smith Foundation Author of Tomorrow Award Shortlist
Congratulations to Finlay (S3) for being shortlisted in the final 3 for this prestigious award in his age category out of over 600 entries from all over the world.
While Finlay did not win the overall award for his short story, being shortlisted in a field of writers from Australia, Columbia, Canada, South Africa and Kenya among others is a fantastic achievement.
His story will now be published in an anthology called Robots, Rebels and the Resistance along with the other shortlisted stories (there are 10 stories in total across all the age categories). It will be available on the Worldreader website.
Well done Finlay!
The School Photographer will be in school on Monday 14 September to take individual pupil photographs for S1, S3, S5 & S6 year groups.
Please note that there will be no obligation to purchase a photograph. Ordering information (on-line or by post) will be included in the proofs pack issued by Gillman & Soame.
In order to maintain the schools strong links with Mearns House Care Home during the current situation, Mr McKee and pupils from Personal Development, led by Sam in S3, have created the ‘Mearns Times’.
This newspaper is distributed twice a week and contains stories, quizzes and puzzles to keep the residents entertained. Crucially, these are all good news stories and aim to stimulate discussion. Feedback has been great so far with the Activities Coordinator saying:
“Thanks so much for this once again and we are delighted you are able to keep it going. The Sudoku was a great idea and some of the residents love it!”
This Friday, 4th September, will see issue 22 distributed, a great effort by all.

CMS Law Scholarships
At CMS we believe that a career in law should be open to everyone with the right talents. Since 2012, our Scholarships scheme has been helping S5/S6 students onto the path to the legal profession by providing financial support, mentoring support and paid work experience to students from across the UK.
To be considered for a Scholarship, students will need to enter our essay-writing competition which opens on Monday 15 June 2020 and closes on Wednesday 22 July 2020. You can find full details of the scheme and how to apply on our website.
