Babe’s in the Woods

All staff at McCready Family Centre are well aware of the advantages of outdoor play and we now have members of staff who have undertaken additional training on Forest Schools.

This has resulted in our ‘Babes in the Woods’ initiative

This inloves taking small groups of children to the local woods on a weekly basis and allowing them to explore the envrionment, risk assessing for themselves while being supervised by staff members.

“Children who play regularly in natural envionments show more advanced motor fitness, including coordination, balance and agility, and they are sick less often.” (Grahn, et al. 1997, Fjortoft & Sageie 2001)
