I noticed yesterday evening, while I was posting yesterday’s blog post, that in the last 30 days we have had more than 1,000 visitors to our class blog, which is just amazing.

Thank you to everyone who has visited and I will continue to endeavour to update the blog regularly. I think it is so important to keep the class blog updated, especially in these difficult times, to keep us all connected as a class, school and community.

Today’s task to prepare for tomorrow’s big event was to get all your snacks and drinks ready, to keep your athletes energised and hydrated.  Jemma was ahead of the game yesterday when she prepared a shopping list, making sure that her brother, Dad and Mum have their favourite snacks and drinks at hand.  She reliably informs me that Mum has been sent to the shops and they are all ready for Kerr’s Sports Day.

Zac has planned his sports day and it looks amazing. I particularly like the look of his closing ceremony.

Gregor is finalising his plans for tomorrow.  He looks like he’s taking his sports day very seriously as there are cash prizes for his winners.

Lewis’s snacks look supper healthy and they should as he sought professional advice.

“I got advice from a personal trainer about all things on my menu.”

That’s commitment!

Well done everyone who has taken part in our preparations for Sports Day. I can’t wait to see the actual events tomorrow.

The third task for Sports Day preparation was to create certificates and medals to celebrate the success of your winners.

As usual, you have been working on this task and your results are amazing.

Delisha has made these beautiful rosettes for her winners. What a great idea!

Zac has decided to give a different reward for each of his winners.

He has also made theses name badges for each of his participants. I love the names, very unique.

With all this hard work, Sports Day looks like it’s going to great fun.

Sports Day preparations are well underway for our Sports Day on Friday. Today’s task was to plan the activities you are going to include in your big event.

Jemma has been very busy creating this very colourful play and practising her events in her garden.

Jamie’s plans are also taking shape and he has even taken the weather into account.

Lea has four events planned in her family-themed sports day.

Zac has been busy planning his on his computer. Good job! I particularly like the look of the closing ceremony. 😁

Alesha’s sports day looks like fun too. I am getting quite excited for the big day now.

Friday marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day. We have been learning about what VE Day means through a reading comprehension and we have been doing some arts and crafts to celebrate this special day.

Lea has been making some Union Jack bunting to show our support for those who fought and died  in the war for our freedom.

Zac has been honouring our war veterans by delivering care packages and offering his support to neighbours who survived the war. What a great neighbour you are!

Zac has also completed our VE Day word search.

VE Day is not until Friday so if you have any plans to celebrate, maybe a tea party or decorating your home, please remember to share your photos.

The big announcement on Google classroom today is that Friday the 15th of May is officially P623 Sports Day.  I will be posting tasks and activities next week in preparation for the big day, so keep logging on.

The Guess the P623 baby quiz is now active on our Google classroom. It’s super fun and a little bit challenging (nobody has full marks yet), so give it a try before I reveal the answers tomorrow.

Continuing our look at the life of ancient Egyptians, today we found out about their belief system and their various gods.

Both Jamie and Dylan completed this word search challenge on the gods of ancient Egypt.

And both Zac and Alesha cracked this code using Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Lewis drew this impressive Egyptian pharaoh.

Finally, Lea has created this artwork of Sekhmet the Goddess of War.

Zac has came up with this solution for one of our Countdown games…

… and Delisha has also solved it using a completely different method.

Yesterday was Star Wars Day and we had a few late submissions.

Wint created her own unique golden lightsaber.

Grace drew this picture of baby Yoda complete with levitating carriage.

Yesterday, we had a go at a book quiz with a difference. It’s a visual quiz called Book Islands and the goal is to name the book characters that live on each island. Have a go and see how many you can guess.

Our BBC Bitesize lesson was about teamwork but I also wanted to celebrate what makes us amazing as individuals. I posted a few activities that let us see everything that makes us special as people.

Today we also launched our “Guess the baby!” quiz with a teacher edition. It was great fun to see our teachers as children as unbelievable as that is.

As it’s the last day of the school week, I’ve given out lots and lots of well deserved digital badges, so check your Google classroom stream and congratulations if you won one.

There are three new badges added to our classroom and I’m currently making some more for next week. Which brings us around to my next announcement. Monday May 4th is officially Star Wars day on P623 Google classroom and I want to celebrate by showcasing the children’s amazing talent and creativity. Log on to our classroom to read more.

Today’s BBC Bitesize lesson was about Islam. It looks like a lot of you really enjoyed learning about this world faith judging by all your great work.

Zac completed this work sheet on the five pillars of Islam.

Aatish completed this Ramadan base crossword.

Whereas, Dylan decided to do some research on the festival of Ramadan…

…and design his own Mosque.

Delisha decided to do all the tasks. These  are just a selection of all the great work I received, thanks for sharing.

So, after a quick Google classroom interview with Lewis and a photo of the magazine article, I finally got all my questions answered. Lewis is different from most young football fans because he chose which team to support. His decision wasn’t based on who his family or friends support but just what he thought after visiting many football grounds and matches with his grandfather. Well done Lewis!

He also sent me this photo of him participating in yesterday’s music lesson. He said it wasn’t really his thing but he still took part.

Grace shared this photo with me earlier this week of her and her brother having a STEM based scrabble game. I thought this was a great idea and they even hid a bit of a joke in it too. Can you spot it?

Firstly, can I thank all the pupil that have participated on Google classroom this week.  I have noticed this week there has been a definite mood of positivity and support for each other and for our achievements. Well done!

Our collection of digital badges, that are given out for achievements, is slow growing. Congratulations those who have received one so far and keep working hard to receive more.

Even though we are in lockdown, we have continued our excellent class novel Sky Song. The author, Abi Elphinstone, creates very clever character names that give you an insight into the character’s appearance and/or personality.  For instance, one of the lead characters is called Flint. This made us think of the stone that cave people use to start fires or fashioned into spear or arrow heads. This made us think that Flint was a warrior or hunter, could look after himself in the wild, or he was a survivor. Which turned out to be completely true.

One of today’s Literacy challenge was to come up with a descriptive and clever name for a ice ghoul.  Jamie thought Snowtooth was a good name for this character, whilst Lea suggested Iceglider.  Aatish came up with the very apt name of Frostbite. Great names everyone.

The second task was to use the images that are created in your mind when you hear one of Elphinstone’s characters and create a piece of art of the character.

Fantastic Lewis! Now rather than answer any of my queries, this front cover has just created new questions for me. What is this difference that the front cover mentions? What is on page 10?
