Distance Learning – Day 19

Today’s BBC Bitesize lesson was about Islam. It looks like a lot of you really enjoyed learning about this world faith judging by all your great work.

Zac completed this work sheet on the five pillars of Islam.

Aatish completed this Ramadan base crossword.

Whereas, Dylan decided to do some research on the festival of Ramadan…

…and design his own Mosque.

Delisha decided to do all the tasks. These  are just a selection of all the great work I received, thanks for sharing.

So, after a quick Google classroom interview with Lewis and a photo of the magazine article, I finally got all my questions answered. Lewis is different from most young football fans because he chose which team to support. His decision wasn’t based on who his family or friends support but just what he thought after visiting many football grounds and matches with his grandfather. Well done Lewis!

He also sent me this photo of him participating in yesterday’s music lesson. He said it wasn’t really his thing but he still took part.

Grace shared this photo with me earlier this week of her and her brother having a STEM based scrabble game. I thought this was a great idea and they even hid a bit of a joke in it too. Can you spot it?

I’m currently looking for baby photographs so we can have a Guess the baby quiz in P623. Please share a photo with me using Google drive. And just to demonstrate that it will be good fun, have a look at this!

Distance Learning – Day 18

Firstly, can I thank all the pupil that have participated on Google classroom this week.  I have noticed this week there has been a definite mood of positivity and support for each other and for our achievements. Well done!

Our collection of digital badges, that are given out for achievements, is slow growing. Congratulations those who have received one so far and keep working hard to receive more.

Even though we are in lockdown, we have continued our excellent class novel Sky Song. The author, Abi Elphinstone, creates very clever character names that give you an insight into the character’s appearance and/or personality.  For instance, one of the lead characters is called Flint. This made us think of the stone that cave people use to start fires or fashioned into spear or arrow heads. This made us think that Flint was a warrior or hunter, could look after himself in the wild, or he was a survivor. Which turned out to be completely true.

One of today’s Literacy challenge was to come up with a descriptive and clever name for a ice ghoul.  Jamie thought Snowtooth was a good name for this character, whilst Lea suggested Iceglider.  Aatish came up with the very apt name of Frostbite. Great names everyone.

The second task was to use the images that are created in your mind when you hear one of Elphinstone’s characters and create a piece of art of the character.

This is Lea’s idea of the character Inch.

Zac drew Inch’s friend Lofty.

Aatish used his digital art skills to create his version of inch.

Another Inch this time from Noah.

And finally, this collection of Elphinstone characters from Jamie. Thanks for sharing all your great art with us.

Remember when I posted the news that Lewis was features in the St Mirren’s magazine, well Lewis shared with me a better photo of the magazine front cover.

Fantastic Lewis! Now rather than answer any of my queries, this front cover has just created new questions for me. What is this difference that the front cover mentions? What is on page 10? Please put us out of our misery Lewis! Keep checking out the blog and hopefully our questions will be answered.

Distance Learning – Day 17

From yesterday’s task on ancient Egypt, Wint sent me this poster.  She has done a lot of research about life as an Egyptian including the homes, jobs and their food. Great job Wint!

Today’s social studies lesson was about how much you know about the World.

Jamie sent his completed worksheet labelling the continents of the World.

Zac looks like a junior geographer here, complete with his completed worksheets, maps and  globe. Fantastic!

I received lots of solution for Countdown today. Remember if you need a bit of a challenge do the slightly more difficult version in the attachment.

Noah

Jemma

Wint

Jamie

And two solutions from Aatish.

Well done everyone. Keep up the good work!

Today i also posted a STEM challenge on Google classroom. Can you identify this item captured under a microscope?

Post answer in the comments of Google classroom.

Distance Learning – Day 16

Today’s question in Social Studies was “What was life like for the ancient Egyptians?” Lewis produced this great poster showing how the ancient Egyptian’s diet varied depending on their wealth. Rich Egyptian could afford meat and eggs whereas the poor ate bread and onions. However, Lewis discovered that “everyone loved garlic.”

Zac share this photo of a recent holiday he spent in Egypt of a camel resting on  Hurghada beach.

Jemma decided to make the traditional Egyptian flatbread using the recipe on BBC Bitesize.

Before they went in the oven…

… and the finished product. They look amazing. How did they taste Jemma? Thank you for sharing your learning with us, you have done an amazing job.

Today I asked the question “Which PE have you done or planning on doing today?” Three of you are are getting your PE fix with the nation’s PE teacher, Joe Wicks. One person prefers a more zen experience and joins in with the Cosmic Kids. But the majority of your prefer to do your own thing. Great!

Ibrahim likes to play football and do some skipping which is a great cardiovascular activity (good for the heart). Jemma on the other hand, likes to take her exercise outside amongst nature.

She also like to do a bit of transient art with things she finds in nature. This is a great activity and a chance to show off your creativity. Why not give it a go and share your photos so I can let everyone see.

Distance Learning – Day 15

Today was Crazy Hair Day in P623 and thank you for all those you participated.  I have sent everyone that shared a photo with me a special Crazy Hair digital badge.

This one comes from Ibrahim. We can quite see his face but we can definetly see his crazy hair.

The next one comes from Lea. A lot more hair to work with here but still as equally crazy.

Who knew Lewis has so much hair? Love the bunches!

A spiky up-do from Jamie here. An finally, the stuff of nightmares, I decided to try a few different lockdown looks.

Pink?

Crazy?

Princess?

Lewis and his sister, took part in our “Singing with feeling” lesson today.

“I played the music outside and did the painting on the pavement with my wee sister – the neighbours think we’ve lost it!”

Great work Lewis and well done for participating in so many of our activities this week and sharing them with us.  You have also won a Weekly Quiz digital badge along with Jamie, Noah, Jemma and Olivia.

Thanks to you and your families for contributing to our digital classroom this week.

Distance Learning – Day 14

Remember to share your photos of all your learning and activities with me through your Google drive or by email.

Thank you Lewis for sharing this excellent piece of art with us. This shows the Great Pyramids of Giza which was part of the this week’s learning on Ancient Egypt.

This week I supplied you with two Countdown challenges of different levels of difficulty. If you find the first too easy, challenge yourself to try the next one.  Thank you Lea and Aatish for sharing their solutions with me.

Distance Learning – Day 13

Congratulations to Lewis who was recently featured in the St Mirren’s Black and White fan magazine. Well done! Thank you Mrs McGoldrick for supplying this photo as she is also a fan of the Buddies too.

Today, I’ve decided to start issuing digital badges as a means of rewarding individual contributions to our new digital way of working. Below are an example of some badges I have made for the winners of our weekly quiz.

If we like this idea, I can make a whole series of badges, and I’m of course open to any suggestions.

Distance Learning – Day 12

Jemma, Lucy and Lea shared with me a great experience they had over the Easter holidays. They had a virtual sleepover, and even better than that,  a virtual camp-out. The sleepover was organised by the Guides and they held a meeting through Zoom, earning them a badge. Well done girls!

Jemma very kindly shared this photo of her making some smores on the barbecue. What a great idea!

Distance Learning – Day 11

Happy Easter and welcome back to P623’s digital classroom.  I hope you had a lovely Easter break. Spring is definitely here and the signs are all around.

This year’s lambs have a been born in the field behind my house and are now looking quite big.

The frogs and toads are spawning in the golf course along the road from me.

And the view of Glasgow on my daily walk looks beautiful on a clear Spring afternoon.  Share any signs of Spring with me and I will be happy to post them for the rest of the class. Lea tells me that the trees are in blossom where she lives.

I have already shared this on our Google Classroom but it’s such a fantastic service that I want to post it again on here.  If you are a member or the East Renfrewshire library service, you can still access a  wide range of materials from ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers. My family and I have been using this a lot since the lockdown closed all the libraries and it’s amazing: you get access to current on the shelf top magazines and newspapers.

ER Culture and Leisure ebooks and ER Culture and Leisure emagazines

I don’t have a lot to share with you at the moment, but Emie sent me her recreation of our Egg Lander challenge.
