Fireworks!

This week, we celebrated Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night on 5th of November. In P1.1, we were investigating the reason behind this celebration. First, we watched the story of Guy Fawkes & then made beautiful artwork on fireworks. Look at our colourful fireworks!

Diagraphs

This week, we have been learning about diagraphs in Phonics. Diagraphs are two letters that combine together to make a new sound. We were working on “ai”, “ee” and “ie” sounds & how to make words with them.

Halloween fun!

Throughout this week, we had lots of fun activities on Halloween. We watched Mr funny bones, scary Halloween songs, played with the pumpkin filled with pretend worms (actually spaghetti) & gloopy slime. It was quite messy but we had fun. We also practised our colouring & cutting skills. Finally on Friday, we came to school in our Halloween costumes. We all described our costumes & the characters (specially any special powers) to the class & finished off the day with our favourite Halloween Cosmic Yoga.

Positions

We have been learning about positions in our class. We loved singing the song “Where is the monkey?”.  We always find fun games to learn new things. We made a human tunnel & crawled under it. It was great fun & even Mrs Patra crawled along with us under the tunnel!

Learning through Play

We love our free play time in P1, where we can work on our motor skills, be creative & investigative. But most importantly, have fun with our friends. We loved the role play corner & playing the role of a teacher.

Why do the leaves change colour?

This week in P1, we investigated why leaves change their colour in Autumn & then fall off. We had a class discussion on the possible reasons behind it & then watched a video explaining the reason. There were few tricky words but now we know about “chlorophyll”( the green pigment in leaves) & why the leaves change colour. We loved learning about the leaves & will continue our leaf study next week!

Outdoor maths

We enjoyed being out in the sunshine today making posters using leaves to show we really understand how to count and display objects next to the correct number.

Diwali!!!

This week, we have been learning about “Diwali”- the biggest hindu festival. It is the Festival of Lights & Colours. We loved watching the Diwali story & singing the Diwali song. We made “diyas “- little lamps made with paper (which was very tricky, especially folding the paper).  We worked on beautiful Rangoli patterns & tried to make Rangoli with shapes, marbles, colours & even with our favourite Lego blocks!
