We had been visited by Gemma, who works in Dog Trust. She told us how we can be dog smart by simply following five happy rules.
Water beads and sea animals!
In our small world area, we now have water beads along with lots of sea animals. It was fun touching and playing with the water beads and finding out the hidden animals!
Wildlife Conservation and SSPCA
Last week we had been visited by Joe who works for Dams to Darnley Wildlife Conservation; and a member who came from the SSPCA – an animal charity. We have learned lots of interesting facts about animals and how to take care of them.
STEM Fortnight!
Last week was our first exciting week of STEM fortnight. We had lots of visitors and we took part in different STEM activities. First we were visited by Geraldine, a volunteer from WaterAid. She told us how her organisation is raising money for providing clean, safe drinking water to some countries. We understood that how lucky we are to get clean water easily as some children have to walk 2 hours to get some water. Our STEM fortnight was launched by Dr Peter Hughes OBE.
Pancake Day!
Today was Pancake Day. So, first we saw the recipe of how to make pancakes. We always wash our hands before cooking. We used our measuring skills to add the right amount of ingredients. We got to taste the pancakes with butter or jam and they were delicious!
Free play!
Sentence and story writing
We had great fun working with jumbled sentences. At first we had to arrange the words in the right order and then we practised writing the sentences. We are also getting good at story writing and have started to include lots of details in our stories. In class we always celebrate our success and give our opinions to each other’s work.
Food chain
In Science, we have learned about the costal ecosystem. This week we extended our learning and investigated different food chains. We know that plants and animals are linked together by different food chains through which the energy flows in a circle. We had fun making our simple food chains!
Valentine’s Day!
What could be a better way to finish off the week by celebrating Valentine’s Day? First we watched the story about bishop Valentine and had a class discussion on why people actually celebrate Valentine’s Day. Thereafter, we all made cards for our dear ones.
Reading books!
We are getting better in our reading skills. We can read words using our phonics knowledge, understand the meaning, and also can scan the words. We always help each other to get better in reading. Reading together is fun!
