Today we re enforced our understanding of time and how to read a clock. We first made a giant clock using sticks, cones and a stone. We had turns at moving the hands round the clock to show how the minute hand goes right round the whole clock each hour while the hour hand only moves forward one number.
After that we made times on the big clock
Then made little clocks and matched digital ana analogue times.
After a lively few ball games and running games to continue our work from last week on ‘friends of ten’,
we began looking around us for symmetry in nature and in outside constructions before working in pairs to create there wonderful symmetrical patterns using natural materials.
We had a brilliant first day back after Lockdown. We were all so happy to see each other and the day was spent playing and socialising and feeling happy again. We built Lego creations, read books, did craft, coloured and created 3D structures. We also did a bit of phonics and maths. But the highlight of the day was playing in the field for the afternoon. we climbed trees, made a pretend campfire, walked about with enormous branches, balanced on branches and discovered a whole world of minibeasts. So much learning outdoors in the lovely sunshine.
Unfortunately, Mrs Arbuckle didn’t take any photos! So unlike her! She was too busy enjoying being back with the children and playing alongside them. : )
We learned how to use tape measures so that we could measure various items around the room. Some children then chose to measure each other! We have to remember to start at 0 and make certain that the tape measure is straight and not buckled up. We got good results.
We measured our feet using a ruler. We took off our shoes (and giggled a lot!) and drew round our shoes. We then measured from the tip of the top to the bottom, using a ruler in centimetres.
We have been looking at the properties of 3D Shapes. We can describe each of the shapes using face, corner and edge. We enjoy building with our 3D shapes as we learn.
We have been learning to use rulers to measure. It is important to know where to start measuring from on the ruler to make certain that the measurement is correct. It is a life skill. We use “cm” (centimetre) when we write a measurement, eg 24cm.
We measured lines in the tuff tray and we measured our feet by drawing round our shoes and measuring them from toe to heel.
