Today we were exploring character analysis. We listened to an extract from Matilda by Roald Dahl and used what we had heard to create a character profile. We created some detailed work.

Investigating and analysing outdoors
Today we enjoyed a marvellous outdoor session in drizzly rain, then blazing sunshine!
We began by discussing all the mini beasts we know and predicting which ones we might spot if we searched for them.
After that we worked in pairs investigating the area and searching for mini beasts before carefully collecting them in our viewing boxes. We were amazed at just how many we found. Not just under rocks, but simply crawling or jumping or squirming around on the grass.
We took some time to analyse them using the little magnifying glasses on to of the boxes. Again, there was much surprise when we saw just how quickly they moved, how they all moved and how their bodies were made up.
Here are some photos of the mini beasts we found.
Adjective adventures
World Book Day
We were all dressed up for World Book Day today. We were super excited! We read lots of stories and Mrs Arbuckle read lots of stories to us.
.
Dictation with Partners
we did our dictation from our reading books and wrote with a partner. One person became the teacher and one person wrote and then they swapped over. we did very well for our first time back.
First Day Back
We had a brilliant first day back after Lockdown. We were all so happy to see each other and the day was spent playing and socialising and feeling happy again. We built Lego creations, read books, did craft, coloured and created 3D structures. We also did a bit of phonics and maths. But the highlight of the day was playing in the field for the afternoon. we climbed trees, made a pretend campfire, walked about with enormous branches, balanced on branches and discovered a whole world of minibeasts. So much learning outdoors in the lovely sunshine.
Unfortunately, Mrs Arbuckle didn’t take any photos! So unlike her! She was too busy enjoying being back with the children and playing alongside them. : )
Designing Stamps for Thank You Cards
We learned about how Rowland Hill was the first person to invent and design stamps. Pigeons used to carry messages and later they were taken by mail coach, pulled by horses.
We used vege gelatine and mixed it with water and then painted it on paper. Mrs. Arbuckle cut the stamps out and we designed them.
We then wrote thank you cards to our families to thank them for the things that they do for us. We stuck our stamps on the envelopes.
Santa Selfies
We read the story “Santa Selfie” about what happened when Santa went on holiday. He was mobbed by people who wanted a selfie taken with him! We got our own selfies taken with Santa!
Santa Letters
Our challenge was to write to Santa and only ask for two things – presuming that we had been good all year! Some people managed to sneak in three requests and some only wanted to ask for one particular thing.
The letters are currently in quarantine before going home this week.
Beautiful Handwriting
We have been working on joining up our handwriting and are trying to use it in our everyday work. It is really all beginning to come together now.
