We have been busy working on our calculations and trying to use our mental strategies to add and subtract. We can still use a number line if we need it, though.

Dear Boys and Girls,
I am so sorry that I can’t be with you this week. I am really unwell with tonsillitis. My doctor has given me antibiotics and a special spray to help the pain. Mr Arbuckle has also been helping by giving me lots of ice cream!
I have emailed my plans to Mrs Noble, so that everything will continue as normal while I am at home.
I hope you have a great day on Friday! Please post me your pictures on the Stream so that I can see them!
I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Lots of Love
Mrs Arbuckle x
Some f us have been learning about estimating and why we have to estimate. we estimated the numbers of things in jars; our height in sticks and how many drops it would take to cover a penny without spilling. It is really tricky to estimate some things.
We are learning how to use skipping ropes in PE. Skipping is great exercise, but has become a lost skill over the years. We also tried jumping over the big rope Mrs Arbuckle held one end of the rope, so there aren’t any photos!) Practise makes perfect! If a child can skip, they were encouraged to hop; use alternate feet or skip backwards. there was a real sense of achievement when some children did it for the first time. Have a go! It’s great fun!
Our Lego bucket is always very popular in class and lots of children love to build models. Mrs Arbuckle made us challenge cards for the Lego this week. We read the cards and set about it.
One of our challenges this week has been to make a den for the teddy with the sticks. It was quite tricky. It taught us to plan, think and have resilience. Once they learned how to do it, the “den experts” helped others.
We needed to find sticks for our activities next week. We also chose a tree and we will take a photo of it every month to see it change.
We learned that if you look back at a tree through your legs and can see the whole tree, then if you measure to the tree, then that is it’s height!
We observed the twigs under the digital microscope t see if anything was living on them and to see the different parts of the twigs.
The class tree.
We had a feel of our bones today. The felt all knobbly and bobbly. We knew that our ribs protected our lungs. we didn’t know that children’s bones are “bendy” and aren’t fully formed. We looked at an x ray of an adult hand and a child’s hand and compared the differences.
We made our skeletons with cotton buds.
We have been looking at bones in the class, following on from our look at fossils. We even have ” Mr Bones” the skeleton in class! Bones are amazing!
We had number challenges in the tuff tray and had to make the correct stories. It was tricky!
