Reading Rocks!

This morning we were introduced to a new to us resource to help develop our reading skills and expand our general knowledge.

The cards contain a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts with questions for the children to answer and mark independently.

There was a real buzz in the classroom this morning and when asked to describe the activity the words given included:

  • Challenging
  • Fun
  • Entertaining
  • Interesting

I wonder what interesting facts the children will share with their families tonight?

Mearns Masters – Designers

This term the children are participating in the Designers pathway of Mearns Masters and through discussions they have decided to focussing on up-cycling existing clothes to create a new look.

As such we would be grateful if each child could please bring in one item of their clothing that can be up-cycled as part of their project. The items of clothing will be refashioned so please only send in items that you are comfortable to have redesigned by your child.

Items of clothing should be labelled with their name and brought in by Monday the 5th September.

Thank you

Mrs Sobocinski

Thank You

Just a quick note to thank our families for attending our Meet the Teacher evening.

Mrs Littlejohn and I were delighted to welcome so many of you into our classroom and to discuss our exciting plans for the teaching and learning in 4.14.

We are looking forward to getting to know all our children and families this year.

Reading Skills – Sequencing

Last week the reading skill we were developing was character analysis. This week we have changed our focus to sequencing. The class is interested in nature and food so we learned about the way cows turn grass to milk.

First we read the article in pairs then we organised the pictures of the process into a flow chart to show the correct sequence.

We are looking forward to using our sequencing skills in other curricular areas too!

Celebration Day!

Every Friday we have a mini awards ceremony in class to celebrate our week. Certificates are given out to mark effort and improvement in work and we all have a chance to reflect on the week we have shared.

The certificates are ready and waiting…….

Let the celebrations begin!

Classroom Design

The children requested that our classroom have plants in it to help improve the air and to give it a homely feel. We now have a variety of different plants that we are looking forward to nurturing.

If your family has any plants that produce young plants we would love to add to our collection. No more spider plants though as we are lucky enough to have a few of them already.

One of our families has already kindly sent in a viola! Thank you very much from everyone in 4.14.
