Oh What a Beautiful Rainbow!
The view from our classroom this afternoon.
Treasure!
Yesterday we were revisiting co-ordinates, grid references and compasses. To support and reinforce our learning we each designed a treasure map.
Today we used our maps in pairs to challenge each other to find places on our maps and to create directions using our positional language knowledge.
Quick on the Draw
Reading skills have been a big focus for us this year and today we put our skills to the test by taking part in a quick on the draw activity.
The children got to choose the questions relating to their text that they wished to answer and the order they would like to answer them in.
The feedback from the children included:
- This is good
- Quite hard and easy
- Awesome
- I like it
- Super awesome
There was a real buzz of excitement in the classroom!

Skimming and Scanning
Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about and applying the reading skills of skimming and scanning.
Skimming is reading something quickly to find the main idea.
Scanning is reading something quickly to find a specific piece of information.
Today we used these skills to explore a text on magnets, combining our new reading skill with learning about science.
Handwriting
In 4.14 we greatly enjoy improving our handwriting. The jotters we use have lines in them that show us the correct sizes for both lower case and upper case letters. It is exciting learning lots of new joins this year!

Mearns Maths Habits
During maths we have been exploring the good habits that people can develop to improve their understanding and attainment in maths. These are know as the Mearns Maths Habits.
Today we took a closer look at them and over the next few weeks we will be extending our understanding and skill of using these habits within our maths. We even have a handy wee record sheet to track our use of these habits in our learning.
